Good morning,
Over on the NBC Action WeatherPlus site there have been more than 100 comments on Gary's most excellent blog from yesterday. I will leave the blog alone for more people to read, understand and comment on the LRC. Those of you who read the "Weatherblog" regularly are no doubt familiar with the LRC. As for the purpose of my blog today, it is to answer the needs of some viewers, viewers who are truly obsessed with "GOLF".
Tommy Williams e-mailed me yesterday with this question
".When the weather, like this weekend, is forecast to be warm and we have snow, where can golf be played within 150 miles or less of Kansas City? Did you know that hundreds of golfers come from the Minneapolis, Des Moines area. during their winter months to play in Kansas City. It is "nothing" for avid golfers to travel and play a weekend of golf, during these frigid times. I have watched you and Gary's weather forecasts for years and have wondered why this was not mentioned. You may have reasons, why you do not. But anyway, I decided to act."
Okay, we first have to start by looking at what part of our region has snow on the ground.
Here is a visible satellite picture from yesterday. The noticeable white area over much of Kansas and northern Missouri is a deep snowpack.

Some of the snow will melt over northern Missouri and northeast Kansas but the safe bet here is south of I-70. On the Kansas side, we need some snow to melt to play out in Manhattan or Hutchinson.
Here are some forecasts for local destinations for Saturday & Sunday.
Kansas City Metro Area Golf Courses --Cloudy & 32 Saturday morning, 52 Saturday Afternoon. Cloudy & 60 on Sunday.
Lake of the Ozarks -- Mostly Cloudy in the morning & 41degrees, 60 and sunny Saturday afternoon. Sunday, Low 60s and Cloudy.
Lawrence -- Cloudy & 33 Saturday morning, 57 by afternoon. 62 Sunday.
So there you go. Have fun. If you play, send me a picture of your foursome and we'll post it on the blog or on NBC Action News. Oh, if you hit your ball on a frozen pond, remember the ice will be thinning. Better to just play a provisional.
Have a good game,
Brett
