Hello bloggers, I was doing some light reading today, The Handy Weather Answer Book by Walter A. Lyons, when I came across that very question on page 301. What are Indoor Thunderstorms? The answer; They may crackle rather than rumble, but those electrical discharges jumping from your fingertips on a cold winter's day inside your home are actually small-scale lightning discharges. They are a sign of very dry air. A sure sign your indoor relatively humidity is too low. Those discharges are static electricity after you cross the carpet. How do you get rid of that static electricity? A few pints of water evaporated each day into the home's ventilation system will end indoor thunderstorms. KC Live is coming to an end. Tomorrow, I'll tell you what that means for me and meteorology, plus I'm taking the plunge again next month. The Polar Bear Plunge and I am looking for donations. I'll update all that on tomorrow's blog.
Have a great day,
Brett
