Overnight, "Hanna" spun over Hispaniola and the Bahamas causing destruction on those islands. If you look closely at the high res satellite image courtesy of NASA you can see how those two land-masses have sheared

re: The Focus Turns to Hanna

Is Hanna expected to be a hurricane at landfall? **** Yes, a category 1, nothing catastrophic but serious none the less

re: The Focus Turns to Hanna

I think Ike is the biggest threat right now. He just looks so organized and capable. The current forecast(yes, I know it's early) has him going up to a Cat. 2, then tracking north of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, strengthening to a Cat. 3. I just get a weird feeling when I see him on the satellite. **** He is ominous, isn't he? Where will he go? I saw one forecast track yesterday that never has him making landfall. Brett

re: The Focus Turns to Hanna

Hanna is now expected to stay weak as a tropical storm when it makes land-fall. It looks like some drier air got wrapped up into the system. Is that right or am I just trying to make random assumptions? I think Ike will make landfall as a cat. 4 in north-eastern Florida, after weakening tomorrow to a cat.3 due to high pressure creating shear. This could just be crazy assumptions, but I think this will be the strongest hurricane to make land-fall this year. **** Great observations, I think you are right about Ike. It needs to be watched. Brett
