BLOCKBUSTER CHANGES

Movie buffs alike are sounding off about Blockbuster's changes to its online movie rental agreements.  Emails have been sent to some customers alerting them of the change.  Many consumers liked Blockbuster over the competition, Netflix, because Blockbuster has stores all over the country where you can exchange the movies you ordered online.  Now, SOME customers who had unlimited rentals are being forced into plans with limited in store exchanges.  I heard from a few, but Blockbuster says the majority of its subscribers were not affected by a change in their plan's pricing or terms.

Blockbuster says it doesn't want to lose subscribers but feels it's offering flexibile and valuable plans while striking a balance between growth of its service and profitability.

Let us know how you feel.....

So, i had to change my blockbuster movie plan. My plan was only $14.99 and i was able to get unlimited movies through the mail and unlimited movies through the store. This was great! I actually switched from Netflix because of the benefit of the instore rentals for a few dollars more. Now i am paying $8.00 dollars more than i was on the origional blockbuster plan and a whopping $10.00 dollars more than i was on Netfilx for the same amount of rentals through the mail. I dont think $10.00 more is worth unlimited in the store. I could be paying the same amount of money i was before but i would only be getting 3 in store rentals per month and that just dosnt work for me. I am a movie lover and i will always be but because of the rise in prices i will have to re-think my choice of switching to blockbuster over netflix. Netflix is giving their customers more options (downloading movies through the internet) and they arent charging their customers any more. This is rediculus if you ask me, its just blockbusters way of saying that they dont like their customers as much as we all would like to think they do. Blockbuster... lower your prices or you will lose alot of customers (through the "Total Access" plans and through the store) if you don't, what do i hear... oh yea your company going down the tube if you don't wise up and make your customers happy. Netfilx will stomp you.

I also had Blockbuster unlimited.  Really worked for me until our locat store said that I had gone over my limit.  I informed them that I had not limit on the movies I could check out and they told me to call Blockbuster when I got home.

Calling blockbuster resulted in them telling me that I had been informed of the new policy and of the price increase.  They told me I had five instore visits and I also would see a price increase.  Well, I called my local store and they informed me that it was not five instore visits but just five returns.  Called back Blockbuster and talked to a different rep who told me five instore visits.  To me thats fifteen movies when you check out three at a time.  (Movie Junky in the winter.)  Called Blockbuster back after checking bank account to see what this was costing me.  Nearly a thirty percent increase compared to old price.  Well went right to a supervisor and ask just what I was supposed to get from for my money and wanted to know why I had not recieved notice from them on the price increase.  They said that they had emailed me of the increase and the new plans which I disputed.  The supervisor said that yes something was not correct about the email and I may have not been informed.  They had just charged my account and i had the next month for about two days.  I ask to have the account canceled and was informed that they could but then they would not refund any money and I would not be able to check out any movies.  I had to wait until five days before my month ran out before I could cancel.  I am sorry for the long story but I feel that my not spending money in Blockbuster is the best fit for their Growth, Service, and Profitablility.  I view their plans not to be flexible or valuable.  Oh Yeah, the supervisor told me that the real reason for the change was that the Parent Company was making the money and the stores were finding out that the increased traffic into the store was not increasing profits at the time.
