ATTORNEY GENERAL FILES AGAINST CHAD FRANKLIN SUZUKI

Four months after our Call for Action investigation into Chad Franklin Suzuki, the Kansas Attorney General has taken action.

There is good news for consumers. Even if you don't live in Kansas, the AG wants to help you.  There is hope settlements with the dealerships insurance company could be worked out in less than six months.

Of course, this is still a developing legal case and we will continue to follow it.

No word out of Missouri as to their plans.  I do know they are investigating.

Consumers I've talked to are relieved there could be help in sight.  Many are voluntarily repossessing their car -- as they are unable to make the car payments.  The ads promised no payment or a small monthly fee, but now many consumers are facing $500 a month car payments.

Let us know your thoughts on this latest development.

I think the old saying "if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is..." is appropriate here.  Who in the world would think that you could drive a new car and the dealer would pay YOU and you would have "little or no car payments"???  I'm not condoning the dealership here, but the buyers need to take responsibility for signing up.  Caveat emptor.

My name is Victoria and I went to the Franklin dealership to do business after a week of phone calls from them offering me a car.  I was told that after they took all of my information over the phone that all I had to do was come in and pick out a vehicle.  At the time I was going to use my 2004 stratus as a trade in.  I was told that that would be fine. They bugged me for over a week to come in.  When I finally went in and went to the front desk, all I got were confused looks.  No one knew what I was taliking about and the person I spoke to over the phone would not even deal with me, he "gave" me to another representive who did not know anything about me or my case.  I know something was wrong so I called my boyfriend and asked him to come over and help me with this.  They made me wait for over at a table before anyone would help me and when he did all he said was that he had to do another credit check.  So again I waited.  In the meantime, my boyfriend was already there, but I didn't know it.  When he got there he went to the restroom which was located by the offices.  He overheard a converstation that was going on in the process that was in regard to me.  While that was taking place, the rep. came over and told me that they needed a 3 thousand dollar down payment and that my car would not be accepted as a trade in, eventhough they never went outside to see it.  My boyfriend pretended to look around at the cars and was bombarded by atleast 4 sales persons offering him a car with no information given!!!  When he said no thank you that he was there for his girlfriend everyone looked surprised, especially when he came over to me!!  Everyone got quiet and disappeared.  This was because I am clearly an african-american woman who they thought was white over the phone, and my boyfriend looks white, so they wanted to help him of course.  The conversation that he heard in the offices we this, they said and I quote, "I don't care what her credit report saye, she is black and if she wants a car, she is going to have to put down a payment no matter what!!! Without a trade in!!"s  When they thought I was a white woman over the phone, everything was ok. But as soon as I walked in and they say my color, they not only went back on their word, they added onto the situation.  My botfriend did not tell me this right away because he was so upset he just wanted us to leave.  After all of this, they were still offering him a car and even gave him some of their cards as were leaving the dealership.  To my amazement, one of the salesmen that treated me badly was black himself!!!! I am still very upset to this day and am considering a lawsuit.  After a couple of days had past I called them againg to see what was really going on and was told that no one could talk about it.  I hope you put them out of business for good.  Everytime I see one of their commercials, I feel violated and get sick!!!!!!

yes I agree with SEC818, and that is what we thought..  but they convinced us it was true.  We wish now that we had listened to our sences rather than the need for a car.

Jenn - I'm really not trying to take anything away from the good work you did in your role in getting the attention of the AG.  But didn't KSHB air these deceptive advertisements from Chad Franklin Suzuki?

I think perhaps you did and I remember thinking this was VERY scam-like. And do you believe that your own advertising sales people should exercise any restraint in matters like this? I think they should.
