The Christian Science Monitor has an artilce about the more than 2-million volunteers under Chinese government control for the Summer Olympics.
There are 100,000 games volunteers who will be helping out at arenas, 400,000 city volunteers who will be stationed at information booths all over the city...
...400 cheerleaders who will cheer for whomever needs it, 400 ceremony hosts, and another one million social volunteers.
The ceremony hosts have undergone the most strenuous preparations. For example, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games website states a ceremony performs exercises for poise by "standing in five- to six-inch heels with jaws tucked in while balcing a 16-page book on their head and keeping a sheet of paper between their knees, for at least an hour".
