Former Kansas City attorney turned author Joel Goldman tells me he started writing thrillers when one of his then law partners complained about a co-worker. "I told him we should write a murder mystery, kill the son-of-a-*** off in the first chapter and spend the rest of the book figuring out who did it. So, I did and I never looked back", says Goldman. That was in 1992 and he has written five books since then, each one set in KC.

His latest tome, called Shakedown is about a Kansas City based FBI agent that shakes when he shoots from a rare movement disorder, or tic. It's based on the real life of Goldman who at mid-life developed a tic and decided the courtroom wasn't the best place for him.
He told me during an interview on NBC Action News Midday that when one door closes, another opens and the tic helped him to follow his dream of being an author.
