It has been widely speculated that Katie Couric will leave the CBS nightly anchor desk in November, after the elections. But who will replace the former NBC Today Show co-anchor? Here are a few suggestions from a poll soon to be released by www.tvspy.com:
Dianne Sawyer, John Roberts, Anderson Cooper, Harry Smith, Bob Schieffer and Scott Pelley were mentioned as candidates. John Friedman of Market Watch votes for Pelley, and Verne Gay of News Day says Ted Koppel would be a good fit.
The reason for the speculation: CBS' rating has fallen and the network is far behind NBC and ABC in ad dollars. According to the New York Daily News, this season alone, NBC has raked in $152 million, ABC $150 million and CBS $115 million. Couric is in the middle of a five year contract that pays her $75 million.
There are believers. Fox News has this story detailing Katie Couric Turnaround Possible.
