NBC Action News broadcasted an Amber Alert Tuesday following the release of information by the Independence, Mo police department. The two year old missing boy was found safe, but this alert brings many Good Questions.
Here are a few facts courtesy of the Department of Justice:
AMBER stands for America's Missing Broadcast Emergency Response.
The AMBER Alert began in 1996 to honor Amber Hagerman, a nine year old murder victim in Arlington, Texas. Area residents called radio stations suggesting they broadcast alertsto help prevent this type of tragedy in the future.
Three criteria must be met before the AMBER Alert is set in motion:
- Law enforcement confirms a child has been abducted.
- Law enforcement believes the child is in danger of bodily harm or death.
- There is enough information about the victim, abductor and vehicle (if used) that will make an AMBER Alert helpful
