Good afternoon Gary--An update from Topeka--We had a moderate snowstorm between 11:30-12:30 pm and then it pretty much stopped except some flurries.  Now it is a light snow but gaining in moderatation.  So we will see how things develop.  Take care, Michael/Topeka/Downtown

Very small snowflakes mixing in with the rain here in Eudora, KS but its still mostly just a cold rain. I've seen a couple bigger flakes mixing in at times, so I think the snow is trying to take over, but the temps must be right there at the 32-33 degree mark.

Just left Weswood, KS at 2pm.  Thermometer in the car was 41.  Arrived in Liberty at 2:20 and the thermometer reads 36.  The car thermometer my not be accurate but it is still a 5 degree difference!

It's dropped down to 33 at Johnson Dr. and K-7, oh so close.

For those of us who are color blind, it is nearly impossible to read this new blog. The blue background just doesn't provide enough of a contrast with the black typeface. New doesn't mean better.

Fred - based on some of the posts in the last hour or 2, I would suggest that the front isn't moving at a steady pace, but is jumping forward in some areas and holding stationary in others.  Too say that the front is moving at any speed across the entire metro would be misleading.

It is likely moving steadily, but very slowly eastward.  I think the rain/snow changeover line is pushing south much faster than it is moving east.

Here in the last 10 mins, it has changed over to all snow here in Eudora. There are big snowflakes falling with what I would classify as a moderate snow fall. Nothing sticking as of yet..

It is possible, and this is why you must watch our newscasts!  It is a requirement if you want more snow.  But, realistically, I am not sure yet.  It still looks like we are heading into that 2 to 3 inch range around KC.  More on our newscasts.

Is it just me or does the radar not look too impressive. Is it supposed to fill in more tonight or are we stuck with the hit and miss snow showers? Hard to see how we could get a couple inches out of these hit and miss snow showers...been snowing here in Eudora for the last hour off and on and still no accumulations.

I believe those of you SE of KC will get your snow on or after the 23rd as the storm tracks seem to want to slide south then.

Its been snowing hard here in KCK  (635/Shawnee drive) for about 15 minutes.  It was huge flakes but they are a little smaller now.

The fat snowflakes here, some currently as much as 1 inch across, are lazily floating to the ground due to the very light wind.  A beautiful sight!

Well well it appears I will escape this time.  I expect the areas to my west, north and east and maybe some have some accumulations.  There is something wrong with the Topeka radar but there's also a hole and the precipitation that just seems to linger over St Joseph like it has in years past, the memories, that the deformation band is even falling apart in Kansas.  I agree with what Scott said it appears as if stream northern Kansas southeast Nebraska a and southwest Iowa We'll have the heavier amounts .  I would be surprised if Saint Joseph gets 2in.          

It's switching back and forth from rain/small snowflakes to rain/BIG SNOWFLAKES in the Crown Center area.

sorry for not posting sooner...i just got back from the hospital...my son was born yesterday at 830 pm.  22" long, 8 lbs. 11 ounces!  the basketball genes seem to be intact, thankfully! so, things have been hectic!

snow has apparently been falling since about 1030 this morning.  there was a brief rain/snow mix at the start, but has been all snow since.  the ground is all white already.  3-4" is very doable!

Braysmom, don't worry about the driving part, just be entertained by all the people around you driving.  It's usually quite comical.

ok one of the radio stations said we were under a winter stomr watch I believe that is incorrect information aren't we under a snow advisory .

Temp has dropped about 2 degrees near JCCC down to 37.8 and is already below freezing up at Johnson Dr and K-7.  I'm starting to worry the roads are going to be a real mess for the 5pm rush hour traffic.

Belton Mo.   still light rain, steady now...the temp. is inching down slowly, I'm at 39.6   I think the weather team did great on this forecast so far...waiting for the first flakes...the wind seems to have picked up just a little

Dougbce-I think you have mixed me up with Emmysmom! :) Luckily I am a stay at home mommy-I don't have to drive in the nasty weather with all the bad drivers that seem to come out when the weather turns bad.

Lets get more bloggers to transition b/c that means that they are watching the newscasts which will then make the newscasts #1 as well!!!!!!

Here in Independence it is still just rain.  When I go to work and my patients ask me what the weather is doing I just tell them to watch KSHB.  They may not have to be out in it, but they still love to know what is going on out there and I make sure they know who they can trust!  Keep up the good work, just hoping that snow line drops south of me pretty soon.  I have to work tonight but I still want lots of snow!

30 deg here in the Johoson County Dome.  For folks in Johnson County don't get your hopes up, we'll get the shaft again,. 1-2 inches. The drive home should be just fine, the gorund has been above freezing for some time and the rain that's been falling for the past few hours should keep it from freezing or getting too slick to quick. It's just the other idiots on the road you need to watch out for. Be expecially carful driving behind someone with a Texas tag.

Dropped down to 42.5 in Kingsville. Temps are now steadily falling!

119th and I-35....the  winds have shifted and the temp has dropped to just below the freezing mark..

Still raining in Olathe, but the temp. has dropped from 37.9F to 35.4F in about 25 minutes.   Around 4:15pm the temp should be around 32F or 33F, if it continues to drop at about 2.5 degrees every 25 mins.

It seems there is a good eastward progression it seems  the line in JOCO is I-35

Watch it Brian1234.  Most Texans know how to drive on ice but not snow :)  I'm from the Dallas area and can drive on ice with no problems.  We get mostly ice down there with very little snow.  It's driving on the snow that throws me.  This is only my second winter to drive on snow so I'm starting to get the hang of it.  My husband said it was snowing in Desoto starting at 3:09 pm.  I just checked out the window and it's still raining around Crown Center :( Bring on the snow!!!

It has been snowing in Lawrence on and off for about an hour now. All I can see is the parking lot in front off my work but the snow is accumulating on it!  

it is snowing in barrington woods  (thats on the conner of 291 and 35 )  its snowing hwavy rite now and we already  have a dusting  the temp is 32 and  it 4:03 pm

Here in Lawrence small flakes but they are falling at a good rate. Its sticking to sidewalks and roads less traveled. Looking out at 6th St and its just wet.

There is a nagging question that has been driving me crazy since 2:15. When is it supposed to start snowing in southern OP??!!

Just drove from the Sprint Campus to just north of Basehor on the northwest side of the metro area.  It was 41 degrees at the Sprint Campus and 31 by time I pulled in the driveway.  The change from rain to snow was at about 1-70 and 1-435.  It is snowing lightly here in Basehor.  What an interesting day!  We saw lots of the salt trucks pulling out of K-Dot at 1-70 and K-7.

u can really see the rain/snow line on radar now, its just easy of 1-35 by maybe 6 to 10 miles, I cant see as well to the north but eastward progression is happing, ict radar show bands forming and lifting NE, Topeka radar really lite up but will it pivot just north of here, I am at state line and 135ths st and the line is coming very soon can't wait for the flakes.

Down to 38.1 in Blue Springs. Dropped .6 degrees in about 20 minutes. The cold is  finally beginning to infiltrate.

finally the temp is dropping here in Blue Springs. 37 and raining. we've had about .2". wish that was all snow!

ground is now covered in Tonganoxie, normal sized flakes now but they were huge about 10 minutes ago.  We are at 30.6 and falling. **************** Great to hear! Enjoy the snow!

S- maybe S temo 28 in St Joe NNNE wind about 20 mph flakes Are getting larger so I suspect we will be going into S+ if the radar from northeast  Kansas is correct as it is all light and dark green.  I was premature in giving up on this event.  The frustration and agnony of the years past.  the streets are white our city nearly out of salt and decided not to pretreat the same less 2200 ton until after the snow falls most likely due to the predicted cold weather and chances for more snow before we have a chance to take delivery of another 4000 ton of salt.  grassy areas are white but not covered.  signing off from work and going home.

Been a crazy day today and that is without the weather LOL

Quick update/Breif Recap:

Snow began mixing in Lawrence around 12:30 this afternoon and went between and rain and snow untill about 3:00 when we finally changed to all snow.

Current temp. is 31 degrees and it has been snowing off and on for about 2 hours-have about 1/4 inch of accum. so far on the grass and deck but the streets are just wet for the most part.

Will be interesting to watch the radar returns later-looks like right now most of the heavier snow is to the north and West where it has been snowing most of the day but it appears to be trying to shift East and there appears to be development to the SW even down in Oklahoma. The 21Z RUC has the 850 low not comming across until later tonight so things may just be getting going??? Again, limb cracking..LOL

Quirky observation: man waiting for the cold air to come in behind the front today was like watching paint dry and it sure took its time today did it not LOL-weather will never cease to amaze me in this area!!!!

Well the snow finally has made it to Olathe, OFF work and ready to watch it!  
It still in conversion mode.. a little of overything is falling.
Current Temp 32.4 degrees W NW wind 9mph, with moderate mix falling!  

Temperature is now 36.7 at AA and Adams Dairy in Blue Springs, a drop of 2 degrees in 45 minutes and 1.4 degrees in the last  20 minutes. The drop rate is increasing!!

Fifteen minutes I have been on here, took schnitzel out and it is turning white in Olathe, mostly sleet.

Well everything is covered, side streets, grassy areas and sidewalks.  The temp is holding steady at 31.  Still falling at a good pace here in St Joseph, if it continues I'd say around 3-4 inches here, by morning,  but I'm not Gary !!!

I  just saw on 41.1 a new warning crawler thing with what looked to be LIVE: ESP

35.6 at AA and Adams Dairy, a drop of 3.1 degrees in 1 hour, should see changeover in the next 45 minutes hopefully. I want to see the radar light up some more southwest of here instead of northwest. I'd like to have a big ole' vacuum and suck that moisture down this way!! I want to lasso that "lift" and relocate it over my house!!! Well, down to 35.2 as I type this!!!

Was at 95th and Ward Parkway at 5pm...rain mixed with sleet...temp 32 to 33.  By 5:10 was at approximately 71st and Ward Parkway and precip had changed to snow...temp 32 to 33.  By 50th and Ward Parkway at 5:20, precip was a steady snow with grassy areas, sidewalks, driveways and even the entrances to some sidestreets snow covered.  I hope the temps keep dropping, the precip/radar echoes keep growing and the flakes keep flying!

I cant believe how long it was snowing just west of here today JUST west, I thought for sure an earlier changeover... hopeful thinking.  But atleast the wait is over! LOL.

35 and still RAINING in Blue Springs.

Roads were slushy between Smithville and northern Gladstone area.  MoDot was out in full force and the flakes have been HUGE!  Golf-ball sized wet flakes covering everything.  1/2 inch or so in the grass...  My kids are hoping for snow day as this seems to be absolutely perfect for snowmen!

Just dumped .25 out of the rain guage, 119th & Ridgeview in Olathe. 31 with light snow as of 6:15.

30 degrees and still rain at 135th and state line..any minute now, the trees have a glaze too

onto the weather, we have an inch at the fort as of now.  i have a feeling that this area and to our west and sw are going to be in the bullseye tonight, gary.  i think that kci will end up with a good amount this time as well.  the way its accumulating and looking at the radar echoes, i think a large area of the west/nw viewing area could end up with atleast 4 inches if not more.

Hi everyone!  I just drove from work, at Tiffany Springs and I-29, to home in Raytown.  I-29 was mostly wet with some slush.  The side streets up north were covering over.  I didn't measure the depth of the snow but it seemed close to an inch as I wiped off my car before leaving.  As for Raytown, its still just rain.

Finally snowing at my house in Olathe!

Just left work here in Lawrence, and the roads are slushy and slick even on the main roads.

I have 5 streaming radars going, LOL, computer will probably start smoking in a minute!  

34.0 in Blue Springs at AA and Adams Dairy. Changeover should be beginning. I'll have to go out and see. It seems quiter outside so my guess is it is. Let the accumulation begin!!

Barbara ok, I was  thinking that.  The changeover has been so SLOW!  On time per NBC team but when you are looking at just 20 or 30 miles the difference is amazing and might make think otherwise.   Just went outside, and we have moderate snow, but flakes are little.. I like the big huge flakes... hopefully get some soon.

It is little ice pellets here in independence.  Roads are getting slushy but that is it.

Oh, it's impressive, I just dont like the dry slots - as in not a dry slot but little or no precipitation band heading straight for Olathe, LOL, maybe it is in that morph stage, what I mean is when the dry spots fill in and the heaviest precip. to the west diminishes, kind of a strange thing,  hope you know what I am talking about.

Right now Big flakes are coming down with Moderate to heavy snow. My own weather center keeps saying were gonna pick up 2.7-3.1 inches of snow. Hopefully that happens

Moderate snow band as indicated on NWS radar out of Pleasant Hill has just entered Roeland Park, KS.  Radar looking very good for moderate snow moving right up along I-35 into NE JoCo KS.  Keep hope alive!

i am in the clear on kc and topeka radar but now have S+ i live inside the I-229 loop in st joe the radar is messed up.....loOks like 60 miles of no precip then more green or S  & S+    UNLESS it slides to the north will know in 50 minutes.

Light snow in Brookside for an hour or so. No more than half an inch. Flakes have gotten larger just now.

Greg, it is awsome.  I'm from Boston so I have been a fan of all the teams all of my life, Pats are going all the way, 19-0!  The Celtics have a shot this year too, Pierce, KG, and Ray Allen. back to the weather, big flakes in Parkville now, we already have about an inch!

Hi Gary. It's Mandee in Excelsior Springs, Currently @ 8:09 p.m. we have 1.25 inches of snow on the ground. Blowing wildly out there right now.

well, here in smithville, its been snowing for oh about 5 or 6 hours now, not enough to actually accumulate to much, just around 3/4 to an inch I'd say (at least on my deck) roads are extremely slick out here, so if you're up by the lake be careful!  We had rain (which froze on the road) topped by snow, then topped by some sleet we had been having for a few hours, now its snowing again. So, not good for traveling!

yea, that snow band out west is huge and increasing in intensity and coverage. I hope it holds together. I think that north of the river will at least get 3-5. The weather channel is terrible, they said total accumulation for this storm in Parkville 1-2 inches, we already have one. This band out west will give us at least 2 or 3 more.  Go Patriots!  I hope the Royals are better this year, they have a bright future with Gordon and Butler.

All snow now. I'm @ 34 by the 'ol mercury therm. starting to cover my deck out back. Hopefully we can get a couple inches out of this.

Easy 2" Olathe, via radar trends,  still snowing hard here at 119th in Olathe!  I Have to go to bed soon.  Long day at UPS tomorrow, atleast it's my Friday!
