Problems with the blog

Good evening bloggers,

Our server went down at corporate headquarters.  So, we have lost all of our pictures for a brief time.  They should be back up there by sometime tonight or Friday.  I hope so, because I spent so much time on today's blog.

Snow showers are likely Friday, and another Arctic air mass will move in.  We think it will drop below zero soon.

Gary

Good luck with the server. I hope it's fixed soon. When does the first 5"+ snowstorm
seem to arrive? I fyou don't have time, you can answer later. That server problem must be really annoying.

Pesky servers...gotta watch them.

Worse case scenerio, you could host the pics on photobucket or something like that, and in the blog entry, you could link the graphics.  I would guess your setup could do that..most systems can.  That way you could still show the graphics, just linked in from another source other than your crashed server.

Just an idea...but then again, I would hope your IT support has already thought of this.

As far the GFS...looking long range, it is struggling.  I have seen some very different solutions in the last few runs from 5 days out.

As far as Monday...we will see.  It doesn't fit with the current cycle, but not to say it couldn't.  All this looks right to me so far...even the map you showed with the surface low is right..it is just a bit early, but still valid as it hangs out in the right spot until its regular departure time.

Looks right to me.  Something in your previous blog made me laugh...

"That upper low does come out but later next week, around January 24th (within one day of when the LRC forecasted it to come out). "

I have had it the 24th all along based on the surface trends.  I remember Simplykristi and I even chatted about it not too long ago.

NWS servers are down, your servers are down, does this mean we have to go back to just looking out the window?
Just proves that computers don't like cold weather either.

Gary, I watched you 6:00 forcast and was wondering if the second artic blast you mentioned is based on the LRC predication of what the weather could be or is the second blast already appearing on the weather maps? Just wondering since NWS still shows next week in the 20s. This time, I would like the LRC to be just a little off on the cold weather temps. :)

Right Scott...  There's a chance of precip on the 24th.  Everything is falling into place. :)

just fyi for everyone on my way home just after 6 driving north on Burlington (9hwy) after the North Oak split and just past the final stop light the speed limit goes back up to 55 and it wasn't long after that the brake lights appeared and the sliding began.  I was one of the lucky ones that hung on and stayed on the road, but it's definetly icing over again on the roads as the temps keep driving.  Be careful out there!

Gary - the second arctic blast, is that a reinforcement to the current below norm temps or are you referring to the one that should be here Jan 31st?

Scott said:

Actually..I should say about the 31st, lasting for about a week to about the 9th.

That is more fit for consumption  ;-)

Gary,
Does the station still have the program records from back in Dec, when the cycle we are in now came around the 1st time.
It might make for an interesting comparison.

When they fix the server ... tell 'em to make the blog accessible via the wireless part of the NBC Action News web site!  I actually can bring it up on my Sprint PDA style phone, but it's really hard to on a regular cell phone.

The NWS was way to warm with the lows for tonight. Some areas already have temperatures below 5F. It just shows you what a good solid snowpack will do to the temps!

Hey Gary, Scott, or whoever can tell,

I am traveling on Friday, February 8 to Chicago and returning on Sunday February 10th.   What can I expect according to the LRC as far as bad weather....I know its far out...but we should know the possibility of weather systems, right?  By the way...I love the blog.  This is my first post on the new system. Keep up the good work...your name is mentioned anytime someone asks about the weather.  I cant trust anyone in other weather departments here in KC...especially one on the hill...that station had forecasted 50s and 60s this week at one point. Hmmmm  That same station says its not gonna get as cold as you are predicting over the next 7 either.  I trust you. NOT them!

We got about 4 inches of snow here in Lawson, MO. I work in Liberty and my commute is usually about 20 minutes and this morning it took me over an hour. Lots of slipping and sliding this morning. The trip home on I-35 North was pretty good, but I exit at Holt and go due east and Hwy PP, 69, and the streets in Lawson were just terrible. We also have some pretty good drifts around our ole homestead. It was a little difficult taking care of the horses tonite. We live on a gravel road and you talk about slick!!! But I have to say that the snow is beautiful here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world. Keep up the good work...I'm still learning....
