When I left Lawrence at 05:05 this morning it had just started to snow. However, it was an unusual looking snow as it appeared to be falling Styrofoam balls.

I don't know if I am awake right now, but I did see a few snowflakes in Overland Park and my eyes opened wide.  I did get a couple of hours, so I'm O.K.

I have a question about NBC action weather plus. I watch all the time and love it. The only thing that dissapoints me is that when you go to live esp the map is not in motion or sometimes it is focused in on one little part of town. I was just wondering why that is. I would love to see the map in motion when there is a storm approaching. Thanks for all of your hard work.

No snow here 7 miles southwest of Plattsburg.  Someone else must be getting my portion of snow today.  I guess I will have to wait for the next system!

Lots of little flakes mixed with a few medium sized flakes here in OP. I might just go into hibernation until Wednesday; that warm up makes me want to vomit! Gary, what do the models say the storm on Thurs. is going to be like(I know, subject to changes, modelitis, etc...)?

It varies from run to run.  The latest data shows a very disorganized storm, but this is still 5 to 6 days away.

Dusting here, Looking at radar it looks like it's trying to develop a little bit right over us. It's nice and cold on Olathe, now that there's a little fresh snow on the ground, I am hoping for more ARCTIC AIR soon!! I'm watching the models carefully as they are showing more Arctic air building  in Canada.

Just changed over from pellets to huge flakes here in NW Olathe.  Looks pretty!

Nice big flakes coming down here by Crown Center.  There's a very light dusting on everything and the sidewalks are slick in places.  Thanks for the accurate prediction on this event Gary!  Now see if you can round up a nice big snowstorm for the end of next week.  That would be fun--we still need at least one *big* snow this winter.

I went out to my car at 7:30, just minutes after I heard Gary say that the snow wasn't reaching the ground. (I live in mid/northern Overland Park, near I-35 & 87th) When I stepped out, there were quite a few very small flurries.

Now, I'm in Olathe and from the windows, I'm seeing very nice flakes coming down--the pretty kind, even for a fair weather lover. :)

Roads on the Plaza turned white too.  I think many of the same areas saw the heaviest snow today.  Heavy being a good dusting to 1".

I don't know where stjoeattorny is in town, but it is still snowing in st joe where I am. The flakes just recently got bigger then the fine snow that was coming down.  It actually is pretty watching. I know it won't be much, but its fun to watch for now. At 7:30 it was flurries and by 8 a fine light snow.

We are almost 100% certain a storm will occur, but not 100% certain on the track.  The % will likely get raised quite a bit in the next 2 days.  It isn't even the weekend yet...hang in there:)

Why does this site seem to only display the 00z NAM,and GFS, and the 12z NAM,and GFS? It seems to skip 06z,and 18z. I'm looking at it right now, and it says it the 00z data.

Okay then -- I'm voting for a HUGE snow south and east - like in Kingsville and Holden!  Yea!  Huge to me is over a foot by the way!  Whatcha think are the chances of that

This arctic air over placement over the northern Rockies, northern high plains, and central/western Canada is more typical of a La Nina winter pattern. So far this winter it has been near to below normal for temps in those areas but above normal in areas further to the south and east. The big question for next week will be the strength of the arctic air and where it will eventually go.

Yeah, Central. I've noticed that the models keep the real cold air up along the Canadian border and don't really send it south.

I'd find it hard to believe with all the active weather in the coming weeks that we don't get another good shot of arctic air.  If we have a little snow on the ground I believe another below zero morninig is possible.

We received a light dusting of very fine snow / tiny sleet pellets near Reno this morning. Just enough to screw-up the roads. Fort Leavenworth received a “skiff” of fluffy big-flake snow – about .75” on the ground.

Nothing more than a dusting in Chillicothe today.  Can't wait to see all of this dirty snow that's left melt this weekend.  After that we will be ready for a fresh blanket of about 12-15" next week....?

We had a little snow this morning in my part of Olathe...just enough to make the backroads a little slick, which made taking the kids to school oh so fun.

Once again the heaviest snow was in northern areas.  Some locations are now at 26"+ for the season!

For those who want to move to the north pole for snow. .  not a good idea it does not snow up there old snow just blows around same goes for the south pole.

A toasy 24 degrees now! Waiting on the Groung Hog Day Storm.   There will be a real zingger out there this recurrence. . . I said it three weeks ago that the favored areas [Topeka, Lawrence St Joe etc] could see a 10-14 inch event . . a 100 miles wide with 6-10 outside it for 75 miles a late 70s early 80's style stom that Bill in Lawrence can also remember.  A slow moving event with cold, gulf and pacific moisture. . . take bets on which one it will be?!

We got dusted or a "skiff" as grandma would say.

Thats funny lol. I think that the NBC weather team is and has done a great job. Just the right amount of infomation and radars for every storm. If I want more info. I just come to this blog. One thing that I find amazing is the amount of respect and the tone for this blog. Updates from everyone all the time and the weather team is always there to answer questions and give their own updates. Once again I have told co-workers and family that there is going to be another storm later next week that will have a good chance of making some snow. They just laughed! Time will tell I geuss. I know that there is a lot of politics that go into how a station will make a forecast or report on differant topics. I jump around to see the weather from other stations. Not that it is wrong or way off. I just get a sense of confidence from the NBC team. Keep up the GREAT work.  


I will be waiting for more snow and the storms that follow in the spring.

I had a question..lol its an un-asked one so far
the music you play when you show esp on weather plus after your little segment....can you tell me where you got it?...I love one of the songs...and the rest are great!...it sounds somewhat like electronic music...sometimes....anyway...if you could please tell me where that music came from maybe I can locate it...man, I would even pay for it...lol

Good job on the forecast team..I think you nailed it....with this small of precip its very hard but you did a great job...the other stations were not calling for anyhting more than flurries...and when they got half an inch in some places they were quiet about it on the news at noon...cause they didn't want to broadcast that that much snow fall...lol....you guys did well once again....although when I watched the news last night I was really hopefull. because Gary said .5 inches was possible in some spots...I should have known better than to get my hopes up for harrisonville  getting anything.....but when I woke up....like warrensburg...there was not mcuh more than a few flakes that showed up on the cars...

I will now raise my standard.....I want a good 6 inch snowstorm...or I will not be happy!!!!

keep up the great work team...you are definitely the best team in the KC metro for the winter....you guys work as a team unlike some of the other stations that just let each meteorologists do their own thing...and thats a contributing factor to your success I believe.
