Good morning bloggers,
The storm system is beginning early with thunderstorms. This, alone, is significant for February. But, there is a lot more ahead. The NWS has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for areas I-70 northward, and a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for areas south of I-70. The midnight run of the computer models did trend a bit farther south than last nights run. As you can see below, our snowfall forecast has not changed much, but if the trend of a bit farther south track of this storm continues then much higher amounts could easily shift south. A slight south shift would mean what is forecast two counties north of you would shift to right over your location. But, of course, a slight northward shift would mean lifting it north by two counties. You can see how difficult it is to forecast snow amounts. Just take that 6-10 inch band and shift it south by two counties and the entire KC metro area goes into it. This is something we will continue to monitor.

There are many other questions that will be answered during the next 12 hours. And, there is a strong Arctic front, that no one has mentioned yet until Brett did this morning on our newscast. It arrives sometime late Saturday, and if there is any snow on the ground it could plunge to below zero by Sunday morning in the viewing area.
We will update the blog in a couple of hours. It is going to be a wet morning, but fortunately temperatures are above freezing. Be sure to watch NBC Action News during the Today show (you support this blog tremendously when you are also watching our weathercasts on the air, we appreciate the support). Meteorologist Brett Anthony will be doing live updates and then we have our brand new Midday newscast at 11 AM. He will be going over the new data and an updated snowfall forecast during that hour.
Lightning and thunder for the second time in two days, this is amazing!
