A slick ride home tonight

It is almost Wednesday bloggers,

I just got home, and it was snowing the entire way.  There was already over one inch on the Plaza when I left.  In the end our forecast may have been right on.  So, let's just see what happens.

The roads are very slick and hazardous.  As the snow continues and the wind blows we will have some significant problems in the morning.  Our team of meteorologists will continue to keep you updated tonight.  Brett Anthony and Jeremy Nelson will be on the air during the morning beginning at 4 AM.  There will be some school closings so check in for the latest information.

The upper low is still going through a transformation and we will continue to see bands of snow developing through the morning on Wednesday.

Have a great night!

Gary

Last frame of Radar almost wanted to show a eastward shift to the precip........maybe, just maybe we will get a good snow out of this yet.  All we need is a good 50 mile shift in the next hour and the Metro could get hit yet

Very true Kelly, did notice a slight eastward shift in that...Who knows...maybe the models are just throwing out some garbage....I know we sure were not expecting 1 inch of snowfall by this time of night....Guess we will just see in the morning, but I still think it will be the best snow for KCK..

Well, after watching the radar for hours now, im toast.  This is what I am seeing though, im probably just fried, the transformation is occuring, it seems it is shifting SE a little? Pockets of snow are developing and moving northward, as long as those pockets keep redeveloping , we are good to go!   But like I said I am getting tired.  Too much fun!

After a bout of moderate snowfall we got a heavy dose of sleet for about 10-15 minutes, followed immediately by HEAVY snow. I went outside and listened for thunder...that's how hard it was snowing a little while ago. Winds have died down considerably but are still gusty. Looks to be over an inch already and piling up fast.

Gary's passion for weather is very contagious, and I could see his frustration with having to move the "bullseye" back two counties north on the 10 o'clock news cast. He desperately wants to change public perception about weather forcasters and has stated so here in the blog. I just don't know why so many of the bloggers here make some of the comments about the forcast being off a bit. Gary and his team are still the most accurate, most passionate, and the least Hype-driven forcasters in the midwest, and perhaps the whole country. Whether I get 3-6 or 6-10 tonight really doesn't matter to me...what matters is having this kind of access to someone who could very possibly go down in history as the person who figured out a more accurate and predictable way to forcast weather. Let's give credit where credit is due and stop the childish behavior when a forcast isn't what you hoped for.

Gary...you are awesome and you have built a team that other stations around the country can only dream about. keep up the great work!

It's beautiful here in Peculiar, too.  Been coming down light and fluffy for a while now, but not much in the way of accumulation - just our usual dusting.  The wind is whipping it around a bit, too.  I'll be up working for a while and can sit looking right out the window.  Kids were keeping their fingers crossed for something miraculous to happen, so they were a little disappointed to have to go to bed at their regular time - which always means mom thinks there will be school tomorrow. ;0)

So I just drove home from work. Driving from 119th and Mer-lin to Lansing took an hour as apposed to my normal 40 minute drive. I averaged about 40mph but some yahooos and their big SUV were weaving in and out of "lanes" at about 60.

Near white out conditions....visability was down to a mean quarter mile or less at points...if there wasn't a car coming at you from the opposite direction then visibility was down to as far as your headlights could shine.

I managed to catch up to a snow plow at I-70 and 435 interchange by the Legends and what he had just plowed was already covered....talk about heavy snow....

K-7 was snow packed atleast 2 inches on the road....Now at home there is atleast 2 inches and still coming down at a good clip.

Be safe people....and remember just because you drive an SUV doesn't mean you are invinsible.....coming home on 435 southbound was shut down because an SUV was crushed under a tanker.....so please drive safely and use your head

Yeah, I am even up looking at the weather and i'm in Columbia, haha. This is one strong storm, Truely an amazing day.

I still have some hope for snow in Columbia. If it wraps around and the it holds together i could see an inch or two.

It is 2:30 (my dog had to go outside for a minute) and there is only 1 inch of snow on the ground and it isn't snowing.  I am close to Stilwell.  Back to bed!

Thanks for the late night update!

At least the bands are trying to push east.  Lets hope we can squeeze out a inch or 2

I think those bands slide thru and 1-3" should do it.  I think KCI's total is around 2" right now.  Probably ending up with 3 or 4"...maybe 5" tops.

just got up to feed the newborn...looked outside, and decided to give an update.  this isnt a measurement, but about 6" is on the ground.  despite the cutoff on the radar coming pretty close the snow is still coming down hard.  it definately looks like another 1-3" is possible.

kci has been in it almost all night, i am pretty sure they have more than 3 inches jeremy...i am going there in the morning to pick up my sis from atlanta, i will bring my camera and take pics so we can compare it to what they report ;)

...so, as of now, unofficially 6 inches here at the fort, could be more though...its a safe approximation.

Thanks for the report!  Another sharp cut off with the snow...sorry southern viewers.

Gary,
Like you, I really enjoy a good snowstorm and I would have loved to get that 10" of snow, but I'll take the 2 to 3" or whatever we end up with here in Gladstone. It is very pretty this morning. You are the best forecaster in K.C. Some people just don't realize how difficult it is to track a storm like this one. Keep up the good work!
