A cloudy and cold night.....February 11, 2008

Good evening bloggers,

We may still get a light dusting of snow over night.  Everything else is about the same.  I have been doing a lot of research on the LRC tonight, and we are beginning the preparation of our next long range forecast, probably to be issued on Wednesday afternoon or evening.  And, we are still tracking the next storm that the models keep digging way south of us.

It has been cold.  I will add a bit more on the latest computer model trends a little bit later this evening.   Now, it's back to the research.

Good Evening Gary-

Much colder day here in Western Wyandotte County then it was on Sunday. Looks like we had a high of 19° here today and currently sitting at 16.2°. Had a little bit of light snow earlier this afternoon, but have yet to see anymore snowfall this evening. The cold weather I must admit is getting to be a bit old and boring, especially without any exciting storms to affect the metro area. I say it is time for some warmer temperatures and some Severe Thunderstorms.

Looks like we are approaching the anniversary of the first ever recorded EF-4 tornado that occurred on February 28. Maybe something in the cards for Kansas City later this month. Who knows? Looking forward to the long range outlook provided by you and your staff Wednesday. I looked back at your last long range forecast that you provided and was shocked to go back and see some of the details and features that were visible on the maps. Like I said, you’ve got me hook line and sinker on the “LRC”.

Have a great evening, and give us some good news on the 10 P.M. show regarding the snowfall for later this week!

I cant wait for your next long range forcast...The last one you did was unbelievibly accurate...You predicted 4-7 storms and we have had like 5 or 6 storms...You also said some people in the viewing area could recieve near 50 inches and I think that is possible in areas like Trenton.
We are at around 1/2" of snow today for Marceline, MO...keep up the good work!!!!

anyone looking at the radar and water vapor loops....the little ULL in central NE is moving SSE . . . WILL it interact with the plume of moisture overunning us now and blow up into something. . . looks like precip is trying to break out in KS and move due east what if these meet at 12 - 5 am couple inches of powder.? . . up here still lite SN  falling blowing into tiny piles and streets that have salt residue on them are wet. . . thoughts anyone...

Gary, any chance the long range shows an early spring with above average temps. and normal precip., followed by a nice warm summer with normal precip?

What on earth is causing that massive amount of precip showing up on the East Coast?  Take a look at the 90 hour GFS.  That thing is showing 5 plus inches.

Wow, trying to thaw out!  I just came in from taking the dogs out and we have a decent dusting outside here by the stadium.  The road had salt on it, and now it's melted the snow and refrozen in spots into black ice.  Everyone please becareful driving.  If we get much more 'flurries' tonight the morning rush could be very tricky.

LOL.

Will you get more detailed this time around - to maybe a storm or day level?

Scott,

There is a lot to think about.  A LOT!

actually this is a very wierd run on the gfs it takes the storm thursday and friday and drops it way down south into southern texas then it lifts it northeast saturday and sunday and we get on the edge of it late in the weekend it will be interesting to see what the future runs do this is wierd.

Hey Chiefsfan, how much snow in downtown? You said the ground is covered? Here in Blue Springs I measured .10 inches. Now up to a whopping 13.1 inches for the year here from like 13 different snow events.

David,

It's like Larry Johnson running.   You have 13 yards on 13 carries.  Now, you need to break one for 8, and then you will be 21 on 14 carries.

Gary is not normally guilty of understatement . . . but the simple pronouncement "It has been cold" is like saying "Miley Cyrus seems to have a bit of a following."

Whoa, Gary!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd like to see Larry Johnson get stuffed for a negative run...  A reverse gone bad, LOL!  Larry's had enough positive gains as I shuttle between the Northland and St Joe!  Let him run wild south of I-70!

Hello from a cold St. Joe, 14 degrees and it is SNOWING lightly still, as a matter of fact the light stuff looks like it has increased a bit in intensity enough to where I would say it is "snowing" out there and not just flurrying if that is a term, LOL.
yes there is like a dusting, and there is some on the roads, but it is like having white dust on the road, at least right now.  As soon as the sun hits the powder dusting tomorrow it will vanish, even if we don't make it to twenty degrees, well I guess we are having a MAJOR FLURRY STORM as it has been doing this pretty much more or less since this afternoon;)

------------------

Yes Nick,  it is a flurry storm early this morning.
