Snowfall forecast two days before

Good evening everyone,

It's Friday night in the big town!    Below is our initial forecast for the snow part of this storm which will materialize on Sunday morning.  Remember we have a lot of other problems developing with this storm as well.  Flooding rain with thunderstorms, icing is possible in some spots, and then then snow.

We will have complete details tonight at 6 and 10 PM.  I am on the air in just two minutes right now.  We will have an update later this evening on this developing storm.

Remember, this is just our initial forecast.  We are starting with this northern position of the snow band, and if there is evidence that it will shift south, then we will adjust.  Right now, this has continued a northern trend.

lol @ Chris

Who said weather forecasting in the midwest is difficult? Pfft.... with this year's weather all you have to do is just change the numbers :-)

It's worked for me on my own personal forecasts for the most part - with exception of the one that went way south of us a few weeks ago.

chfs327,
Your ice storm will be in northern MO not the metro area if it happens.  There's no mention of ice in the forecast for KC.

Gary and your team,

I noticed that you called the water watch a "flash flood watch" on your 5 pm news.  I just visited the NWS site and it says it is a flood watch over Kansas City.  Wouldn't it be prudent to get the information right if your going to put it out there?
************* Billy, There a Flood Watch and Flash Flood Watch right next to each other. Maybe they just put Flood Watch and forgot. Either way I really think people get the idea and the forecast has had heavy rain possible for a couple of days. So it shouldn't be a surprise or an error that people get worked up about. Jeremy

Just how thin a hair are you wanting to split? If I get water in my basement, I'm really not going to care if it was a 'flash flood', or just a regular old 'flood'.

And perhaps, it was just a slip of the tongue. I don't suppose you ever would let that happen, would you. Lighten up, Clarence.

Thanks, and yes it is a flood watch, but there is also a flash flood watch.  I will get it right at 6 PM.

I will trow this out there again. At 6:48 tonight you can see the space shuttle docked to the ISS. Look to the NW about 10 degree above the horizon and it will exit to ESE. It will be visible for 5 minutes. It will look like a bright light. If u have a good pair of binoculars u can make out the ISS and Shuttle. It travels at 17,500 miles an hour or 5 miles per heartbeat so a telescope won't work.

I think we should all wait till tomorrow afternoon for a relaible forecast to many variables with this storm ************ Thanks for the ISS info! I've seen it before and recommend! Jeremy

Jeremy, good ol' chfs327 is bound to eventually get one right if he keeps throwing 'em out there!  :-)  Look, snow lovers unite.  Wait.  Snow lovers in KC unite.  From 7pm until 8pm tonight, let us all sit in a quiet, meditative state and envision snow falling from early Sunday morning until late Sunday afternoon.  Envision it.  Dream it.  Maybe we should buy that book The Secret?  Maybe we're not practicing the laws of attraction and all of that.  We KC folks should start hanging around with folks from St Joe...they will rub off on us...and perhaps their weather will too.  No KC folks are allowed to be around Clinton or Harrisonville folks the rest of the winter.  Close your eyes...picture wet heavy snow...fat, fluffy flakes.

It is marginal.  We will have to see how it sets up on Saturday.  But, it could become a significant problem.

WOW I hope you got to see the ISS and Shuttle. It is really starting to take shape with the solar arrays fully deployed and now the Columbus lab attached. When it is fully assembled it will be the length of 4 football fields and u will be able to make it out with just the naked eye. Sorry a little bit of a weather geek and space geek but I think it is amazing people are that smart to be able to build something like that and make it fly. OK back to the storm coming........

Kevin,

The storm is very impressive with tons of moisture.  The heavy rain part of it seems certain.  The snow forecast is tricky as all rain to snow forecasts are.  I am looking forward to seeing the new data in a few minutes.
