Quick Update

I just spoke to the NWS thru our 'weatherline' on the computer.  Here is the latest updates on warnings/advisories.  I'll post a map and county by county break down and new blog between 4 and 5pm.  Thank you to the NWS for the information below!

The Flood Watch remains the same. We'll be issuing a Winter Storm Warning for far Northern MO from 9 pm tonight thru Sunday afternoon....we'll break the northern counties up with the western sections ending 6 pm Sunday and the eastern sections ending 9 pm (just north of Kirksville area). A snow and blowing snow advisory for west central MO and east central KS (includes St Joseph and KC metro down to Miami and Cass counties) from 3 am till 3 pm. Snow and blowing snow advisory east of KC area to Kirksville from 6 am through 6 pm. We'll be coming out with specifics by 4 pm.

Thanks Jeremy for the update :o)

I'd better get outside and finish up.  Going to make home made pizza tonight and have a video rented.  Now, if the power only stays on with the snow and 45mph gusts, wow!

Looks like the snow is only a tad more south than before.  Gonna be another "missed it by that much" event again as it appears.  Maybe good since I have to fly out Monday morning for Ft. Lauderdale.

remember heavy snow warning is for 6 inches plus in less than 12 hrs Sn and Bl sn advsry likely means 4-6 accums.  Not Winter storm warning or Heavy Snow Warning criteria

I'm pretty sure the reason the NWS has put a warning up for Northern MO is because of the potential for ice accrual.

This is NOT going to be a major snow maker for anyone in the area

Of course, my definition of Major is over 5" (used to be over 6" but this winter has been disapointing for Kansas City).

The temperature has dropped to 33 and there is a mist/drizzle falling. I'm curious what the weather will be like once the main storm gets up here. Could there be a chance for all snow?

Are you still expecting 1-2'' of rain for Olathe?  It looks like the rain won't start until 8PM of later by looking at the radar.

mmancubfan said:

It dropped 2 degrees in Olathe in the past hour down to 34 degrees and is misting with a few drops of precip.

Wonder if the temp drop is due to the saturation in the lower atmosphere or if the models may be off a bit?

The radar that shows the whole storm looks really impressive... All of Oklahoma is getting drenched right now and it looks as though it's definitely taking aim at drilling KC head on.  I'm lookin forward to a good amount of snow with this one.  As long as it stays the way it's going.

33.7 degrees here in Parkville. The temp has dropped two degrees here in about an hour. Could we be talking some freezing rain or sleet?

Farmgirl,
I'm in Jackson County, and read in one of the statements that there could be 45mph gusts.  I just came in and re-read the new one, and it says 40mph gusts tomorrow.  Either way, too much wind if the snow is sticking to everything.

Greetings from Stormdog - I usually post most often on Mondays or Tuesdays, my days off, as I try not to post from work too much.  Usually, my posts will be historical - the month in review so to speak as pertains to Blue Springs, with an occasional unscientific comment here and there! :)

Someone mentioned it had dropped two degrees - I wonder if that was due to the precip falling through the dry mid-levels mentioned by the NWS, thus producing evaporative cooling in the air column?  Anyone with knowledge can confirm/not confirm my guess.

Yes, I am sick of this winter, gray and dismal, not enough sun, too much cold, but winter is winter I suppose.  I have enjoyed watching the precip totals in the rain-gauge though.  I am just glad we're closing in on March, although from what's been talked about in this forum, I think the Dog will end up heaving in the corner multiple more times before April 1st!  Ah well...

Later,
Dog

JUST POKING FUN BASED ON ANOTHER TV PERSONALITY....
Okay...All hell is going to break loose. We're in for a massive snow storm and flooding. The snow and blowing snow will pile so high that travel will be impossible by late Sunday. Electricity may be cut off from thunderstorms. Make sure you have buckets of water a flash light, torches, a candle and a working radio. The blowing snow may clog your dryer vent, so take precautions now and get your laundry done....... If you have animals, make sure they're inside and plenty of food and water. If you have fish, make sure their light is on cause the electricity could blow at any moment.
Unless you own a snow plow or a salt truck or a tank; do not attempt to go anywhere on Sunday.  Note:  Canoes won't work on frozen water.
If your kids go outside, make sure they are wearing helmets and shoulder pads....
Please take this storm seriously as we may not survive into Monday.
Do not drive your tank or snow plow into a floodded ditch. Turn around, don't drown.
Run to Home Depot now and get a generator and some extention cords and a gas can.  While there, go ahead and charge that new gas grill you've always wanted. Then, take your tank and get gas..... Stop at CVS and get some aspiring and bottled water and maybe 5-10 frozen pizzas and an extra bucket of cheap coffee and maybe a 30 pack.
Call the elderly and make sure they have all the above. Figure out a way not to scare them unless your in the will.
Close your bank account and take the money to buy a bobcat or at least a sump pump and a snow shovel and maybe a canoe or small boat. Note: The boat my need a small motor unless you know how to paddle. You might need additional flotation devices for you and your animals. That might mean a stop to PetCo.
Quickly update your will, (your won't get an attorney on the weekend, so it's up to you). Then run to the grocery store again for essentials like sugar, cookies and 5 lbs of ground beef and pasta, and don't forget the big pack or toilet paper.
Run to the video store and get at least 15 movies and 5 bags of microwave popcorn.
Remember with your generator, you can still watch vidoes while the KC area is hammered with the floods and snow.
Make sure your tires are inflated and you have plenty of windshield fluid. Don't worry about the oil or gas cause that's not important right now.
Check your ins. cause you aren't probably covered for flooding. If that's the case, you're not covered for when the heavy snow caves in your roof or when the thunderstorms knock out your power and crash your hard drive. Note: Candles and flashlights won't help the puter. If they do, let me know. I'm in the dark on this....
Call your next of kin and remind them how much you loved them, no matter how hard that is to do. before your phone quits...
Be careful when shoveling the 4" of snow. Snow shoveling is known to cause heart attacks, probably because your out of shape. If you attempt this, take an aspirin first or call the neighbor kid off his Playstation to do it, cause yours won't.  Neighbor kids are always cheaper when you can find one.  Do not attempt to shovel snow off your roof because you could drop your shovel and you'd be in big troubles......Get the neighbor kid to do it.
Signed....That other personality from another station

Funny...but let's be nice.

KC should see around 1"...maybe a little more.  1-2" is possible south of KC.

I sure hope this is not going to be a trend on the huge lingering down pours and training storms again. Last summer I had to pull over and explain were I lived so I could get home every day since the Marais Des Cygne flooded and washed part of 69 hwy away. And I've still got 200 bales of hay in an old barn that will leak a bit if the wind is really strong from the Northeast. Grrrr..... Just want warm, calm weather!
