Good snowy morning everyone. Great job with the storm and forecast!!! Snowing heavily here in Eastern Independence. Will be watching 41 at 8:00 a.m.

Im thinking more then 3-4 inches up north. We already have 0.8 inches on the ground. Does the radar look good? My computer is messing up for some reason.

Here in the Fort Osage area of Independence it is really coming down heavily.  There is at least half an inch out there already!  Someone I work with told me that the channel they watch said we weren't going to get any snow with this storm at all!  I told her who she should be watching!  I think you proved me right!

Yep, it's snowing big ol'flakes here in La Cygne too. Surprising ground is rapidly turning white itstead of melting.

Still snowing amazingly hard. The flakes are HUGE.

How long does everyone think this snow is going to keep up.  Looking at the radar it does not look like it is going anywhere fast.  It is really coming down here near 45 and 435 in Platte county.  I can't watch the 41 news show this morning because I have lost my satellite signal. :(

Snowing heavy in St. Joseph. I don' t know when the transition happened but I  know at 5:30 I was woke by the sleet hitting the windows.  Just by eyeballing it, there is close to 2 inches already on the ground and it is coming down fast. I'd say there may be some ice under the snow because the front porch is icy. The trees also had some ice on them last night, now they are covered in snow.

Snowing in Blue Springs and everything is already white

Snow is coming down heavy in Adrian this morning.  Was raining hard when I let the dogs out at 7:00 am, looked up shortly thereafter and there were huge, fat flakes coming down by 7:15.  Thick, beautiful snowfall.  Sticking on the ground even though it seems warm for that.  We haven't had much snow all winter here - so let it snow for the kids (and my lab)!

1.0 inches in Parkville as of 740 A.M. still snowing hard

Snowing here in Raytown with about 1/3 of an inch, so far.  It's a very wet snow that will be excellent for all sorts of fun for people but no fun for my cat. :o)

Must have had some Freezing Rain around 6 AM as my weather station stopped processing wind data about that time.

Total rainfall before the freeze was 1.10", and as now it looks like have around 1"-1.5" of white.

Here east of platte city we have 1 3/4 inches already. The fall rate very impressive. It's also very windy here. Beware of the extra weight on damaged trees.

I think we have some sleet mixing in at times in western KCK.  Sitting here looking out the window, there are times when I can hear the sleet hitting the window.

It may be graupel, or snow pellets.  Kansas City, KS is in a convective band of heavy precipitation right now.

Leavenworth is getting a lot of snow fast--looks like maybe an inch already.  I am an observer of the weather--not the measuring type.  The cedar trees in my yard are heavily laden with snow already, and the branches are already bending downward!  Car is covered as well as the fences.  It's almost 8:00 am, so I have to sign off for now to catch the 8:00 news and weather, especially the weather.  Thanks for the accurate forecast.  We can always count on you!!!

Snow is pretty light right now in Blue Springs...pretty good dusting on everything at this point.  Based on the news coverage right now from the sports complex there is a heavier band coming this way!

32 degrees in Cameron with moderate to heavy snow....approximately 2 inches on the ground.....visibility 1/4 to 1/2 mile at times with heavier snow bands.....

The snow has really lightened up in western KCK right now.

Enough of the negative tone:)  Let's judge after the snow is done.  Keep in mind you've always been in a 1-2" or 1-3" band.  So 1" would be along the lines of what have been thinking.

Jeremy I just watched the weather, am I really in the 1 to 3 inch band?.....oddly enough I can't see that happening....if we get 2 inches it will be the biggest snowstorm this year!!! yay!

In SW Topeka, after starting out with heavy snow and thunder at 5:30 AM, we now have only very light snow and about 1"-1.5" on the ground.  Things seem to be winding down pretty quickly now...

Brent, great wide-area radar site.  Typical deformation band decreasing in area and intensity as the energy pulls away.  

I have been going back and forth between light and moderate snow, but the flakes have been a nice size all morning

I am sitting in Hays waiting to head back to the Gladstone area today.  When should this start to clear up in the viewing area.  I have checked out the ksdot and modot websites.  I would really like to know when this is going to stop.  Another day in a hotel room does not sound appealing:)  If I was home I would want it to snow all day but now that I have to drive in it that is a completely different story.

Around noon you should see improvement.  There will be some blowing snow in open areas though.

Well, here in OP a nice heavy band is starting to move through. I want to say that we have at least 1.5". I noticed on the radar that the heavier bands keep popping up amidst the deformation band as it moves through.

Do you still feel this storm is analagous to the December 22nd storm (57 days ago) - the one that gave us all a White Christmas and dumped 8-10" from Topeka to St. Joe?

@ South Liberty we have a solid inch on the grass. Large, wet, snow flakes coming down at a good clip.  Temperature is 33.3*F.  Intensity of the snow seems to be picking up.

33.9 and I have one inch here in West Olathe (Persimmon Hill area), currently snowing moderately.

It was raining when I woke up around 5am by 7 it was snowing big wet flakes. We have enough to cover the roads and make it too slippery to want to go anywhere up near Exc. Spgs.
I am so ready for spring!  Wish we were still on our vacation. Warm weather, sitting by the pool lol. Although a tornado hit this week about a mile north of  the hotel we stayed at in FL.
Guess it's better than living in IL/WI. My family is expecting another 9-12" of snow today. I have friends driving back from LaCrosse WI today to northern IL and they are in a blizzard warning area.

North of Leavenworth, still snowing heavily, west side of everything is covered with snow, visibility is about 1/2 mile and that's stretching it. Roads are snowpacked with a layer of ice under it, and electricity is flickering, just a tad over 3 inches in  spots not affected by the wind from the west. Really heavy wet snow, and I to am having the satellite problem , can't keep it clean long enough.

Solid two inches on south side of Leavenworth.  Very wet snow, branches hanging low. Coming down moderately heavy at this posting.  I'm curious about the temperature. It was 30 degrees most of last night - and rain. No ice formed on surfaces?  Woke up this AM, and snowing - but still 30 degrees. What changed?  

Just let the dog out and stood watching the snow.  We have 1/4 inch  here in central LS.  I'm sure more has fallen but the wet ground must have melted the initial snowfall.  As I watched, it went from a genly falling, good sized snowflakes to horizontal snow to gently falling tiny snow flakes and now back to bigger flakes. Light to moderate but pretty none the less. Not much wind out there yet but when a gust comes along, it's a pretty good one.   Temp is 32.9 so it's going to be a really wet snow, great for snowmen and snowballs if we get enough!!

This is where we don't understand.  The forecast has been conistent all the way through, and it is doing about exactly what we thought.  But, if you are reading the comments, then it can be emotionally draining.

Snowfall rates have decreased, but there is still plenty of light to moderate snow to come through

if I am optimistic....theres about .33 inches of snow on the ground here.

One local forecaster has 4 to 6 inches broad band of snow for the entire metro and north and parts of the metro and north with 6 inches plus and there is no way that is going to happen with the decreasing snow rates

Woke up at 7 AM - bout an inch of snow on the ground with bare spots on the pavement. Woke up again at 8:50 - still some bare spots on the pavement. Temperature is above freezing - this stuff is melting before it really starts to accumulate.

A beautiful 2.5" in Roeland Park.  Still snowing moderately.  Not the BIG ONE, but I'll take it!  Besides, I would trade a couple hours of heavy snow for 10 hours of super light snow any day.  Good job, Weather Team.

I am disappointed that I haven't got to see huge fat flakes.....that is the best part of a rain changing to wet snow storm.  I have had dime and nickel sized flakes most of the day.... and even now while its snowing really hard right, the flakes are not big

heavysnow, you apparently weren't supposed to be this time.  However, I'm not sure any KC resident has the luxury of being disappointed because the snowflakes weren't big enough -- I mean, we're lucky just to get snow!  Beggars can't be choosers.  Enjoy the snow!

It looks like you will get an inch or two, just looking at radar.

Usually as the low pulls away a band of snow will intensify as the bands beging to shrink....I would think that would be East of the State Line into Missouri.  

Snowing good in Leavenworth, shoveled a path to the truck, and just ran to the store, 15 minutes or so, and it was already covered when i got back.  How long is this gonna keep up, hoping for more.

Before i left, I measured on the deck rail, and it was 1.5 inches.(Leavenworth)

about 3 and 3/4 inch of snow here and still snowing good.

Olathe here chiming in...just north of Olathe North High. It is........SNOWING! :) :) Changed over about 6 am...we now have maybe an inch..maybe a lttile more. Hard to say, since it seems to be "melting" at times, or just mixing in with the wet grass in yard ! But it is coming down at pretty good clip at the moment.

Currently we are sitting at 32 degrees with light snow falling. We are about at the end here in SW Lawrence and picked up a beautiful 2 inches this morning-what a gorgeous snow-this is a post card snow here in SW Lawrence!!! We may not have received the big 6 plus inches this time, but there have been several winters in my life time that I would have given anything for a snow like this so no complaints here!!!

So many thoughts about the past 24 hours-what an interesting storm!!! I now have to decide if I need to cancel our school senate's faculty appreciation dinner which I am in charge of so here comes the phone calls LOL!!!

So when this moves out, is the sky going to clear at all, or will it be cloudy?  It seems like whenever we have snow this winter, it always gets sunny to some degree shortly thereafter.  As long as the roads are okay tomorrow morning, I'll be happy.

I am SOOOOOOOO ready for Spring...assuming it ever comes. : (

Pretty heavy snow still falling by Lake Waukomis!  I must say it looks amazing with the snow on every little branch of the trees.  And even more amazing is when the wind blows just right and the flakes seem to kinda suspend in mid air!

We've got a little over 2 inches on the railings right now and it doesn't appear to be shutting down anytime soon!

My first entry. Just started reading the blogs yesterday. Very interesting. I don't have a sat. dish or cable, so I don't get 41 very much, but when it's coming in I always catch the weather. Glad to have found this site.
Just north of St. Joe. Like the others said, some ice on trees and blowing snow. I have 3 inches on my porch, and drifts in the drive of probably six.
Beautiful to see, but I'm staying in until it stops. Tired of driving in this stuff.

Nick Rau pegged ity 3.75 at my house as well would like to get to 5 time will tell.

Some stations are reporting we could have 6+ in kc is that posssible with this strom considering we have not seen that with the other storms.

This is a GREAT time to track the Nowcast accuracy going on in KC television market.

One station to remain nameless is:
---Continuing TV coverage and pumping "the biggest snowstorm of the year" based on KCI measurement of 4.2 inches being the largest of the year so far.
---Predicting 6+ inch band of snow from Lawrence through KC transversing NE through Chillicothe.  2-4 for the rest of the Metro South and East.
---Predicting snow to continue through 3-4 o'clock this afternoon over most of Metro.

NBC predicting 2-4 inches for West and North Metro, with 1-2 in the SE portions of the Metro.

Track this and sees who ends up accurate......
