Good late afternoon everyone,
Friday at 8:20 AM I will be on Newsradio 980 KMBZ for a recap of this wild week of weather and we will go into my theory the LRC. Tune into Newsradio 980 Friday morning!
It has been another strange weather day. Almost all of the significant precipitation, in the form of sleet, occurred along and south of I-35 this morning causing widespread slick conditions. Until, that is, around 11 AM. A disturbance came out of the main upper low and has been a heavy snow producer. Huge snowflakes began falling on the Plaza during our 11 AM newscast, you should have seen Brett Anthony. He was so excited. And, then it lined up from Lawrence through Kansas City, KS across the Missouri River to Liberty. Some of these areas have had to of had 2 quick inches of snow. This final band is now moving away.
Looking at the satellite movies, and analyzing the latest data, it appears that the upper low is stretching out and becoming slightly positively tilted right now. I thought, last night, that we would see a slow motion version of many of our storm systems, and it has happened. This storm is going through a steady weakening and transition as I am writing this. It will spin by early Friday morning with maybe one last band of light snow. Additional accumulations from this final band look like a dusting at best.
We will keep monitoring this situation and the next storm passing near by on Saturday. Is this tiring you out yet!
Have a great day. Our team of meteorologists at NBC Action News is working on special graphics to describe this crazy weather pattern. We will have it ready for the5, 6, and 10 PM newscasts.
