Evening update on snow potential

Good evening everyone,

Thank you for your seasonal totals.  We will talk about the weather pattern, what to expect in March, and show the list of the totals, which have been pretty amazing this season.

But, first, a cold front has moved through most locations and colder air is surging in. This is NOT an Arctic air mass.  So many of our recent fronts have at least been partially Arctic in origin.  There is a band of snow moving our way from southern Nebraska.  I will be tracking this for you tonight on NBC Action News.

Look below at the surface map below:

Looking ahead, we like the warm up potential for Thursday, and especially Saturday and Sunday.  More on this as we gain confidence in the 7 day forecast.

Gary

With all of the crazy weather, do you see any potential for severe weather anytime in the near term (next 2-3 weeks)?

So is this big blue blob on Intellecast's radar just deceptively impressive?!...the one that looks like it's making a B-line right towards us?!!  It looks like lots of snow to me, but what do I know?   Is it supposed to fall apart before it gets here?  Hope not!!

the snow looks decent on radar, although i dont like the direction its coming from, it could dissipate instantly coming from that way.

well, even though its really not that impressive...stations that dont have any echoes over them like lincoln, ne...are still reporting snow.  and considering that there is ample low level moisture in place here already, it wont take much for stuff to fall from the sky once it gets here...

that being said, i dont like the way the radar is acting over the IA/NE border, it seems to be breaking down...

Did you guys think the storm was going to take a more southern route than this last night, or is this the path you thought it was going to take??

probably a dumb question, but why does the intellicast radar always trick me into thinking that there is more coming than there is?  you are right, the wunderground radar looks much different.  Darn.

The thing I like most about this winter isnt the snow totals..Its everytime I look at the 7 day there is always something to look at...Always a storm system, or temps jumping eveywhere..It seems like there hasnt been one time this winter I have looked at the 7 day and didnt see a chance for rain or snow...I wish all winters were like this one...Thank you Gary and the weather team for all your hard work. :)

Your welcome!  We will stay on top of things.

Anyway, Gary, are you getting sick? I thought I detected some "hoarseness" in your voice on the 6 o'clock. I hope not! You have a trip coming up, don't you? Maybe you were out in the snow too long with Stormy and Breezy Sat night ;) ;)

Gary, did you say on the news, that you don't think next Monday's system will be any big deal?
The weekend sure looks good for nice temps!

It is snowing in St. Joseph. It started around 8:15. It is a light snow in terms of flakes, but it is coming down fast thanks to the strong wind. Main streets wet, starting to stick to less traveled roads along with sidewalks. I don't know how long its suppose to be doing this but maybe we'll get 1/2 inch when its all done. Then again the wind will blow it all away. It is blowing 25 mph and there has been report gust at 43 mph.  It's very cold.
