Monday night snow update

Good late evening NBC Action Weather Bloggers,

Live:ESP radar is showing a very thin band of snow moving in from the northwest.  It is like a line of weak thunderstorms heading our way.  It won't last very long, and the wind is blowing hard enough where we should just see it blowing around.  Let us know if you see any snowflakes.

On Tuesday we will look ahead.  Be sure to watch NBC Action News at 10 PM.  We will be tracking this line of snow moving through.

It is still snowing here in Marceline, Missouri...There was some pretty big flakes mixed in with some rain..Now the flakes have gotton smaller and the rain is begining to freeze on some of the tree branches and it is 32 degrees...There is no snow accumulation, and the roads are just plain wet, just the trees have very thin layer of ice on them and there is still rain mixed in with the snow...The roads may get a little icy here in Marceline, MO

Just giving you a briefing of whats happening here in the little boring town of Marceline. :)

Just drove from 435 and Metcalf to just north of Basehor.  Snow started at K-7 and 1-70.  It is really blowing around, but I didn't even have to use my windshield wipers.  That wind though just about blew me and my SUV off the road! :)  The temp dropped from 37-38 degrees in the city to 33 here at home.
Thanks,
Anna

The 18Z GFS looks extremely mild after this frontal boundary for next week.  The cold air will be located nearby in the Midwest core, and Upper Midwest, though.

LRCfan,
Unfortunately, the 18Z GFS looks very warm with the arctic air located just off to our northeast. However, I will wait and look and see how much different the 0Z is! LOL

Near Liberty Mo -- I just looked out and it looks like it may have been snowing for a bit because there is a very light layer of snow on the grass and on some of the cement surfaces...I'm guessing they are the ones that weren't scooped and were left to melt, because my driveway is just wet while parts of my neighbor's is getting a dusting.  Still going...and I hope it goes away soon!  : )

Those high temperatures look rather optimistic for the weekend. I don't think the warm air will last very long with this pattern still in place. We will definitely still have some stronger cold fronts, but any snow potential does not look quite as good in the extended range currently.

I'm beside myself. The snow band literally broke up again, split and weakened as soon as it got south and east of 291 and 70 hwy.  I have it on slow motion radar replay and after further review the play stands...I got screwed again. The only way things can get worse this winter is when my neighbor across the street is shoveling 3 inches and my driveway has a dusting on it. I bet if I went out and bought a snow making machine it would break and stop working after dusting my yard. This is getting to the point of causing irrational behavior-like moving in the middle of the night, renting several large dump trucks, going to where it has snowed alot, filling them up, hauling it back to my yard and dumping it. I went walking and just stopped and starred into a light watching the armada of mini-sized flakes fall, the shear density of flakes was inspiring but it soon fizzled into familiar dissapointment. Each flake gives rise to new hope but before it is realized it vanishes into lost vapors.

It started snowing here in Emma and since the news was over, I flipped to the W*ath*r Chann*l. Their local radar showed the snow basically falling apart as it left Jackson County. My wife was on the computer, so I had her look at your radar and those of the other stations, as well as Int*llicast. No one but you showed the storm continuing and in any way corroborated the empirical evidence slowly covering my sidewalks and lawn. Not only do the people of Channel 41 get it right, so does their radar.

Walt,

Thank you for noticing.  During the winter months it is important to have your radar with the ability to pick up the lightest precipitation.   And, last night we set LIVE:ESP at a level to pick up the lightest snow.  And, it showed the small snow event quite well overnight.

Good chilly/windy morning to you sir!! Currently sitting at 23 degrees with a strong wind out of the North-it is beginning to slacken compared to what it was about an hour ago and last night but still pretty strong-it will get your attention this morning!!! We did get a lite dusting here last night-the ground is indeed covered again!!!!

We are hosting a rock concert at school tonight with a band from New York (long story how it all came about but it has for sure caused some sleepless nights the past week LOL) so I have been able to barely catch a surface observation chart and have not seen a model since last Thursday-flying blind here LOL!!

A couple things I did notice on my one glance at the surface charts and just the wetaher outside:

1. I am assuming with the wind we have had the past 18 hours that this storm really strenghtened as it passed by here and that areas to our North and East probably got a decent storm out of this. Again, I have not seen any reports or satellite or radar but just based on the winds and how long they have been blowing that this storm really deepened as it headed East.

2. The temperatures: it was in the upper 90's in SW Texas yesterday-wow!!! With that warm air already showing up and the arctic air building and then comming down March is really going to have some wild weather for areas of the plains. Will we get in on the winter side? Will we have happen like yesterday where we are kind of in no mans land? Will we be in the severe side? Whatever the case, March is going to be wild wild wild-the storms will return as will the cold air just as the LRC shows us they will and with the heat already building in SW Texas man these storms are going to get energized. I am just thinking about 90's in Texas and single digits in the Dakotas-wow!!!! March will be a month to remember!!! I hope this makes some sense as I am for sure just going off the top of my head!!!!

I am guessing that the models are already beginning to show hints of the arctic air building and the tranisiton into the stormier part of the pattern-my hope is that here in the next week I can really start watching/following the weather again!!!!!!
This is for sure kind of random Blog, but just a few things I noticed-March is going to be a wild month weather wise!!!!

Have a great day!!!!!

Bill wondering what a model output looks like in Lawrence

------------------------------

Bill,

Keep taking a break from the models for a few days.  There isn't much expected for a little while.
