Weekend warm-up update

Good evening bloggers,

It is so close to snowing on Thursday, but it will most likely stay just northeast of our local area.  We may see some rain shower activity during the day with lots of clouds.

The NAM model is showing the strong warm up for Saturday is right on track. There is a chance that we will begin March with a 65 degree day.  But, then a strong cold front will come through sometime on Sunday.  We will look into the cold front as it gets closer, so for now let's talk about the warming that has alluded us all month. If there are no clouds on Saturday we really believe that it could be 65 degrees.  And, then Sunday could be in the 60s as well if the front holds off until later in the day.  We should know a lot more soon.

I am going out of town to Columbus, Ohio for the Arnold Classic (I have never been to Ohio and there is a chance of snow).  It is a body building competitions and I am competing in the weatherman's contest......just kidding.  I am just going to get some great fitness ideas.  There is a huge fitness expo going on and 15,000 people often attend.  On Saturday, I will be taking a ride to go and see Jamie Jarosik in Dayton.  She used to do weekend's for us here at NBC Action News.  I will try to get a picture to share with you bloggers.

Have a great weekend.  I will be back to work on Monday.  Brett, Jeremy, and Jeff will hold down the fort.

Gary

Gary, enjoy your trip.

Carryover from the last blog.  Nice to see the theory getting some mileage elsewhere.

Might want to check to see if Brett, Jeremy and Jeff are ready for us before you leave?

Good Evening Gary----------- I see you have a chance of rain Sunday, do you think we will see any snow out of that system, I know it still day's away, just wondering. I remember Jamie Jarosik, on weekend forecast she did a great job, Jeremy also does a great job as well. Gary I have one request, can you take WINTER with you to Ohio and bring SPRING back to Kansas City. :)

The LRC is something.  In a bit more sleuthing, I find it interesting how everyone who communicates it has a slightly different name for it.

Here it is the LRC.

The same method used by Doug Heady is the "Heady Formula"

And of course I use the same concept, different method of measuring it..but I guess I don't have a fancy name for it.  Its just what it is...cyclical surface based analysis.

For those seeking more information on the debate on the "Heady Formula", there are many threads to read in googling it.

Also, there are other concepts related to the LRC out there.  I posted one long ago in my blog that uses time/longitude methods to record 500 mb heights.  Graphed, it can be used in long range predictions it states.

Think about it.  It is the same thing that the intern did with Gary to some extent.  Record the 500mb height on a given time and date and maintain those records to depict a trend.  Same thing here, just done in a slightly different method.

I will not post the link to this presentation here since it is a competitive theory, but for those wanting more information, let me know.

I would like to think that those looking at this including Gary, Doug and others are pioneers to some extent, but I find it interesting to see how much similar stuff there is out there as well.

Hmmm...

Gary, enjoy your trip!!!!!...I cant wait to hear about the LRC some more in the future...This warm-up in my opinion is a blessing, but it needs to only last a very short time, and winter needs to return in full force

That "snow effect" clouds were really cool yesterday...It snowed s evening approached and we got a very light dusting...Have a great evening, and tell us how Ohio was.

not sure if any of you know this yet or not. wunderground has a new feature.its called WunderMap Interactive Radar & Weather Stations, it basically overlays up to six animated frames of base scans over google satellite images. quite useful if u ask me.

I happen to be up at 245 am and was wondering what the weather team, especially Jeremy,  thought of Peterssen's Theory of Conditional Symetric Instability as it is applied to the LRC and more generally, our weather.  To me it appears to hold true in every season and in every system, and it may no longer be just a theory, but that was 8 years ago I learned that.  Actually, I am just having a little fun with you.  While I will enjoy this weekends warm up and see the subsequent cool down, any signs of a prolonged warm spell?  Bring them 70s up this way!  Keep up the good work, guys!  I enjoy your top notch forecasting day in and day out.

Randy - WUnderground is a great resourse for only $5 a year!  I found the WunderMap earlier this week.  Now I can't wait for a storm to come in and see how good it really is!

Gary - Tell Jamie we all said hi.  Jeremy has certainly been a great addition to NBC Action Weather Plus, but we still miss Jamie!

Gary,
Have a great time in Columbus.  The one time I went was 10 years ago, and we came home to a blizzard that covered most of the state.
