Rain/Snow Arrive North of KC

Good afternoon everyone!  It has been a dreary day in Kansas City and kind of chilly outside.  Depsite the air temperatures in the 30s and 40s in most spots, the wind chills have been about 5-10 degrees colder.  It seems like Spring weather will never arrive...but hang in there.

Precipitation is now reaching the ground well north of Kansas City and mainly along and north of highway 36.  Reports of snow have been coming in from Kirksville, Moberly, and Marceline(dusting reported) in Missouri.  Maryville is reporting drizzle and 32 degrees.  Falls City and Omaha, NE both have temps in the 30s and light rain.  I expect this area of precipitation to continue moving east and best precipitation chances are along and north of highway 36, and the rest of the precipitation should remain mainly north of I-70.  The precipitation should clear the area by this evening.  Right now it looks like the metro will stay dry.

Here is a look at the surface map around the region as 2:23pm.  Notice that most of the reports are near the Iowa and Nebraska borders.  We will continue to track this and have updates for you on NBC Action News at 5, 6, & 10pm!

Have a great day and we'll update you this evening!

Criticism.  LOL.  Its not that tough of a crowd today, really.  Absent of much fact based criticism in the previous blog, it should be taken as a mere rant.

it was proposed how forecasters could stay employed based on one person's percieved accuracy of a forecast.  LOL - it should be these same folks that obstain from watching any sports.  Percentages of "perfection" are substancially less than that of even forecasting.

In fact, with baseball [where one goal is to hit a ball with a bat], if you do that just one third of the time over your career, you are one of the best...ever.

Its all relative.

Just curious...what does your cycle call for Sunday/Monday?

I am not complaining at all, Jeremy. The temps are mild enough for me :)

Check out this link from northern New England.
The weather station for south-central NH at Concord has had 8.80 inches of precip so far this month and has a current 42 inch snowdepth! That is unbelievable for this region. My family in central NH has now reported 109 inches for the season.

That sounds like a real winter:)  I'm ready for Spring...but I think Saturday may only tease us since more cold air is lurking for the middle of next week.  Monday will feel pretty cold too.

.25-.50 QPF.  50% chance.

The blog server has been very slow and sporatic in the last two days.  This is why your views and comments are way down.

You all might need to phone a friend on this one.

*********************

It has been slow...hopefully it is back up to normal speed soon.

~~roger that.  It has been slow to even load the past 3-4 days.  Sounds like a server may need to be rebooted.

Kind of like the forecast at times.

**************

I rebooted the forecast and all it produced was two days in the 60s.  I'll try again later and maybe we'll find more warm days, but I doubt it.

I thought it was just my computer, and after I used the registry cleaner too!
You know, if one doesn't like the forecaster, one has the freedom to watch other forecasts. If one has an issue with the blog, one has another blog that allows extreme rants .
I, personally, have an issue with the forecasts (they keep predicting cold weather and I want 70's) but I still love the weather team. They rarely edit posts and when they do, it is not to hide criticism but to preserve the integrity of the blog as a place where people of any age can learn about weather.

Thanks for understanding...about the slow blog speed too;)

Yea, well maybe the server is sick like I was;), man the best part of being sick is when it ends;),  here in St. Joe, we had a few rain drops, other that that kind of cool and gray here.  well I'll be awaiting for March's first volley!

******************

Glad you are feeling better Nick!  March should be a lot of fun again...if you like rain/sleet/snow:)

I forgot to put my name on my last bloging, Q Will there be t-storms in East Olathe on Sunday, Byan?

**************

Right now the precip. chances look best from KC and points south.  Can't rule out t-storms right now...the timing of the front will be a huge key.  Slower to move thru...better chance of t-storms.  Faster...less of a chance.

The snow started around 12:50 PM and came down moderately with fairly small flakes...It stopped around 1:50, so it snowed for a good hour giving us a heavy dusting...It started raining and sleeting after 4:00 PM, and it would change back and forth between sleet and rain off and on...Now the precipitation has ended...There is still some snow left on the ground from the dusting we got, but it is melting fast after it warmed prolly 5 degrees since it started snowing.

***************

Thanks for the detailed reports.  It is tough on days like today to know when the precip. is reaching the ground...and then in what form.
