Kansas City Heavy T-Storms...update

Good evening bloggers,

Thunderstorms with heavy rain will continue for the next two hours.  We are tracking them on NBC Action News in just a few minutes.  I will add more after the newscast at 6 PM. The main threat is flooding and frequent lightning....

Updated at 7:20 PM:

1.5 inches of rain has already fallen over parts of the city.  Flooding continues to be the main threat.  Severe thunderstorms are possible on Thursday and we will blog about this possibility later this evening.  There is still a threat of flooding as more thunderstorms are developing to our south.

You were talking tornadoes, Brian.  I will stand by my statements of earlier...  The main threat is heavy rain.  We might have some wind and hail.  The area is under a Flood Advisory.. just saw it on Gary's weathercast.

I keep missing the newscasts and would like to know how much rain OP should end up with by the end of this. I am looking forward to the hot and humid day tomorrow(crazy huh).I love the stormy and hot and humid weather of the spring, but I hate it when it's cold or it's hot and dry. I hope some new data comes out and next week turns out warmer than currently forecasted. The cold weather should be gone forever(low 60's=cold)

I don't have a meteorology  degree, nor do I understand all the technical terms Gary and the weather team use. I do have 47 years of Kansas weather under my belt though and this is a thunderstorm, no tornado's ,sky isn't the right color and the air just doesn't have that " feel" about it.
Rained quite hard north of Leavenworth and then the temp dropped about 10 degrees, still raining lightly and 64 degrees

Can someone tell me what Gary said for the weather tonight? Especially south if of the city. Been without power here in La Cygne since 5 pm. The weather radio is going nuts! Guess large hail is heading my way. :(

LaCygne was actually named in the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Linn County.

Just lots and lots of rain over the next couple of hours.  Maybe some hail which you probably know by now

Farmgirl..I am in Pleasanton and my weather radio has been going nuts too...but mainly for Bourbon Co. Even though our warning has expired I believe we will be put into another one if that HUGE cell in Bourbon Co makes it to us. That cell was also in Crawford Co and produced golfball size hail. My brother in law lives down their. So make sure your animals are put up or they might get a concussion...seriously!!! Obviously the further north that cell goes it might weaken. But I am watching it. The more I sit here the closer it gets and the darker it gets.

In response to the question "Don't you people have jobs?"...
Brian, I am not sure who or what you are so rudely referring to. But I am a Respiratory Therapist at a local hospital and work full time, which amounts to 3  12 hour shifts a week. That leaves me with 4 days off a week. Not everyone has a M_F 9-5 job.
As for getting respect here, do people honestly think you can come on here and demand that by being rude and self-righteous? I am have seen that from the same people over and over here and it really annoys me..but then that is why some do these things.
Thank goodness the majority here are fun and enjoy discussing the weather ( or KU, dogs or whatever else pops up, so what?) without slamming the Weather Team or the other decent, kind , interesting people on this blog.

It is something we are analyzing tonight.  I will try to blog about it around 9 PM or so.

Doug,
Thanks for that link!  I forgot all about it. :)  I am so used to going over to NWS site.

All,
I think that it is high time that people respect one another's ability here.  I can understand a lot of terms like shear and velocity and cap.  I admit that I don't study the models...  They change from run to run anyway. :)  It would be nice to have a glossary of meteorology terms.  I am like boontz...  I have lived here all of my life.  I am almost 44.  I have been a weather fanatic since I was 11...  Got my first weather radio then.  I take my weather very seriously.  I prefer to watch the sky not study thge science...  In fact, I am usually outside taking pics until the first drops fall.

I am sorry that today was not a tornado day here.  But it was not that kind of set up.  There may have been some weak rotations in cells but it was short-lived.

Looks like to me the aerial coverage of the storms is shrinking.

Kristi is right. Everybody has their strong suit, I love the geography of storms, and tracking them. I dont necessarily like the scientific and physics of meteorology. But that is why this blog is so interesting, everybody is so different. We all should respect each others views on weather, and learn from each other. Tomorrow looks to be another exciting day on the blog, hope you all can join.

Mamaof3girls and FarmGirl,
Earlier (last blog) as I was talking about Paola and only having sprinkles, as soon as I hit enter to send the message, down came the rain, lots of rain here in Paola.  We've been spared the worst of the weather, only heavy rain...only..ha like we needed more rain!  Grounds are so saturated near bull creek, I'm sure it will flood the park soon.  I hope the high winds are over for you all, no high winds here.....yet......
