*****12:04 a.m. update from NWS on something people have asked about.*****
Very interesting phenomena just occurring over srn parts of the KC metro. Supercells to the south have "vaporized" and caused a modified heat burst to move across the srn half of the KC metro. SW winds have gusted 20-40 mph, and dewpoints have "tanked". This is only a temporary effect, but interesting nonetheless. Timing of the squall line into wrn Johnson KS/Leavenworth is around 1am or so.

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms have swept thru the region tonight. Severe weather reports have ranged from hail around the size of baseballs north of Altamont in Daviess County to a couple of tornado reports near Belton, MO. The final line of thunderstorms is now developing and heading toward the viewing area. This line will sweep thru between 1-5am and will likely produce damaging winds and hail. We can't totally rule out an isolated tornado, but right now that appears to be unlikely.
Here is a look at LIVE:ESP and the storms that are just west of Topeka and Emporia moving northeast.

The surface low is near Wichita, KS and can be seen on the surface map. It will move along the front that is located from Manhattan to Wichita. Behind this front the cool air will work in by morning.

As soon as this squall line clears the area we are looking at drier air and cooler temperatures to work into the viewing area for Friday. Thanks for making this a record setting day on the blog...we have had ten of thousands of hits in the past 24 hours!
