NBC Action Weather Blog

A cold front is moving through

Good morning bloggers,

The main disturbance is now moving by with heavy rain north of I-70.  There is a comma head of rain just north of Kansas City, near St. Joseph with more than one inch of rain likely if you are in this spinning area of rain.  There is a trailing edge of this disturbance swinging across the Kansas City metro area.   The next storm is approaching us on Saturday.  We will blog about this storm later today.  If you want to look ahead to next week, Brett Anthony has posted his thoughts on his blog. http://community.nbcactionnews.com/blogs/brett_anthonys_blog/default.aspx

Look at the 6 AM surface map:

The low pressure area will be moving into central Missouri by late this morning and we will have a wind shift to the northwest.  The surface low northwest of KC at 6 AM is directly under the upper level disturbance which has a spin of rain moving along and north of I-70.   As the low moves past us later this morning, the wind will shift to the north with a temperature drop, then sunshine should return this afternoon creating a beautiful end to Friday.

Rainfall totals likely will vary from 0.10" to 1.00" up north where the rain is just pouring down this morning north of Kansas City.

Have a great day.

Gary

Jereme,

This last band of rain may produce up to 1/4 inch in a few spots south of I-70, while more than 1/2 inch falls in the spinning disturbance up north.

The rain has just started to pick up a little bit here in Marceline, and looking at the radar, we will be in the rain until late morning or early afternoon. That area of heavy rain around St. Joe is headed right for us, and I hope it weakens before it gets here. I love this cooler weather pattern, it is keeping the morels fresh, and growing. I found a 10 inch morel the other day!

When do you think the rain will be over with in Marceline?

I have to umpire a Baseball Game tomorrow around 2:00. Will storms cause it tol be delayed or Cancelled?

I wonder... ****** The 2 o'clock time frame should provide a window of opportunity to get the game in if done by 5pm.  Brett

Why such a cold bias?  This morning you have a forcast low this weekend of 37.  I have looked at other forcast and the lowest I can find is 44.  That's a huge diffence!  Another thing Brett,  why say we are going to be right at normal with a high of 67?  The normal high for today is 74?  Once again another 7 degree difference.  I guess we will see what happens over the weekend but it's beginging to irritate me to the point of not watching your station.

******************

We forecast what we think is going to happen and not what other stations or sources forecast.  If you follow the blog or watch our station(which you say you do) then this philosophy should be known.  If we think the 37 is too cool then it will be changed.  A lot this time of year depends on if a highs is overhead and if skies are clear and winds are calm.  If those precise conditions are not present then lows in the 30s are very difficult to achieve this time of year.

Also, the average high for today is 72 with an average low of 52.
