Quick Update

Watch NBC Action News HD at 10pm and Monday morning from 5-7am for the latest weather information and live reports from southwest Missouri!

I had a chance to watch our lead storm chaser Sean Wilson's footage today of the severe weather that occurred over southwest Missouri on Saturday.  All I can say is he has some incredible video that I haven't seen anywhere.  We are including some of that footage in our newscasts.  A huge thank you to Sean for sharing his footage.  For all the tornado damage surveys in southwest Missouri check out the Springfield NWS site.

Now a quick look ahead to our weather.  Monday looks good outside of gusty winds during the afternoon...probably around 25-30mph again.  But, the high temperatures should be about 71-76 across the viewing area with sunny to partly cloudy skies.  The next rain chance comes in with a front Tuesday afternoon.  The models vary on the front timing(not a huge surprise) and the amount of moisture available at the surface(dew points).  As a result I'm thinking the best severe weather chances will once again occur over Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Missouri, north Texas, and southern Kansas.  Clouds may also be an issue for areas near Kansas City as right now Tuesday looks mostly cloudy.

Gary will have an update on the work week forecast in the blog first thing Monday morning!  It's been a long weekend and I'm ready to enjoy a nice day on Monday!

I recently read that people can sign up to receive Amber Alerts via text message to their cell phones.  Has anyone considered such a service to provide severe weather updates?  It would seem to feasible and would solve the concern of hearing sirens or being in places where there are sirens.

I thought others on here have done that thru our website...unless that was just the forecast.  I have LIVE:ESP on my phone(and my phone isn't anything fancy) and use that quite a bit.

well...there goes our severe weather season...it's in the toilet and it's being flushed...so far I've only seen one or 2 storms out of any of the cycles that bring us severe weather. and they've already happened. May is supposed to be the month. Based on the LRC I forecasted a Huge severe weather month this month. Are we really dodging the severe weather bullet again? and with the SPC outlooks consistantly being south of us I just don't see us being under any big threats for big storms this month. Am I coming to a reasonable conclusion or am I way off the charts. I wanted to be able to chase this year... and again this year it's just not gonna happen. frustrating...

Wow, long weekend, yes last night was weird, having the strong northwest wind, usually this time of year if you are having that here it is due to thunderstorms, but to have pressure gradient winds like that was very weird.  Sorry to see all of the damage once again in the same areas, Wow almost this whole LRC has been a disaster in SW and southern MO., 4 ice storms, flooding events, tornado outbreaks, the first one in January between the ice storms!!! They have had every thing short of a Hurricane it seems.   As for our severe weather season, some people think it is a "dud" but I say wait until mid June and see what we think, remember May is the AVERAGE peak, and with this cool pattern, and with the way the jet it continuing to stay south in our region this year, even when it does retreat, and it will, it will still likely try and have late season incursions into our region, I remember in 2004 it seemed like severe weather season was going slow until either the end of May or the start of June but then it went crazy in the area for a few weeks, likely SW MO will still end up as the majority but with this cool pattern there is still time left, well I think it is time to end this ramble with a late "Happy Mothers Day" to all the mothers on the blog, sorry the greeting was late, not always able to get to the blog like I would like to;)
