Summer forecast special segment

Good evening bloggers,

Our special summer forecast segment is 3 minutes long and airs at 10:05 or so.  We will still have our full weathercast at 10:18 PM to go over this developing Omega block.

We have made some adjustments to the 7 day forecast as we though that the cooler Great Lakes air will be a factor into the holiday weekend.  There is a lot to discuss on our weather tonight, and we will go into it in the blog on Tuesday.

Have a great evening.

Gary

According to the cycling theory, isn't 12/22/07 one of the "matches" for this coming week?!?

I had forgotten about that snowstorm until you mentioned it, Steve.

----------------------

Notes,

It is one of our storm systems, but there was much more flow at the time. This is a perfect example of how the same pattern produces very different specific results.

Notes, remember the date ranges provided were based off my interpretation of where we are in the cycle..not Gary's.

what is the possible effects of this omega block?

--------------------

The mean "long term" longwave trough is still just east of us, and it will return, so the impact of the blocking pattern may be minimal.  We will talk about it in tomorrow's blog.

Gary,

If one round of the cycle can produce a snowstorm to rival any event of the winter (12/22/07) while the same part of the pattern produces a blocking pattern in the upper levels (later this week), all but eliminating significant activity in the middle of the country (the polar opposite of "the storm"), it seems to me that neither the surface nor the upper air patterns match up...do you see what I mean?

ok I only have one question.. what is the reason for the shift to the east or is there a reason?  other than mother nature's severe case of PMS

----------------

It is because of the pattern we are in this year.  The "long term" longwave trough, where storm systems intensify, is located just east of KC.  It is a dominant feature and it still exists now.

Great job tonight Gary and the rest of the team. I really enjoyed all of the explanations!  A couple too many times showint the large LRC graphic, but overall it was great. Glad they gave you more time tonight. I wish they would give you that much time or more every night. So much more interesting than listening to all of the constant bad news about murders and car crash deaths every night.

Also I wish there were more stories like the one about the little boy last week with the tumor. What an uplifting and motivating story.

What a world this would be if we could turn on the news and actually learn like I did tonight instead of being told about what horrible things have happened during the day. Oh well, it is what it is.

Thanks Weather Team!

Mark

-----------------

Mark,

Yes, we put the LRC graphic in there one or two too many times.  Thanks for the feedback.  Maybe if the ratings were good they will let us do expanded weather more often.
