Good late morning bloggers,
Stormy & I will be at the Price Chopper in Parkville Saturday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM. Weather radios are for sale at $29.95 each and we will have someone there to program them for you. So, come on by Saturday morning and say hi. I will have some other free stuff to give away as well. And, I can't tell you how much we appreciate your involvement in our blog and for your viewership on NBC Action News. Thank you so much. I hope to see some of you on Saturday!
Wow, what an interesting weather pattern, and a stormy morning. It is still 56 degrees at 10 AM this morning, as a few spots had over one inch of rain. Please blog in your rainfall totals and we will show some of them on our weathercasts today. Our forecast high of 69 degrees is looking good right now. But, there is a strong warm front to our south as you can see on the 10 AM surface map I just analyzed.

This front may get reinforced with a Great Lakes push of cooler air late Friday into Saturday. Our forecast highs in the 80s for Friday and Saturday may have to be adjusted back down into the 70s with the threat of thunderstorms and a lot of clouds hanging around. The latest computer model guidance is strongly hinting at this warm front moving north Friday, and then sagging back through to our south on Friday night and Saturday. This is very complex and it is creating major forecast problems that we will try to figure out on our weathercasts on NBC Action News.
Look at the weather pattern. Wow, what a western storm! The map, below, is the 500 mb flow (18,000 feet up) showing the Omega block, with the powerful May storm over the western United States. The big ridge, high in amplitude through the middle part of the nation with the downstream upper trough over the east is why we may get one more cooler surge tomorrow night and the warm front may stay active with thunderstorms.

By Sunday the warm front should jump to the north and we will go deeply into the warm moist air mass Sunday and Memorial Day.
Severe thunderstorms will likely develop over eastern Colorado and western Kansas this afternoon and the Storm Prediction Center has that area in a moderate risk today. Here is a picture of a large tornado in Weld County, CO courtesy of our NBC affiliate in Denver. This is close to Fort Collins, CO.
Below is the radar estimated rainfall totals from today. Some pockets had 3-5" of rain! While some areas only totaled about 0.10".

Here area a few of the totals from today's rain. Look for more totals on NBC Action News!
