Thunderstorms raging in at 5 AM

Good early Saturday morning bloggers,

The holiday weekend begins stormy!  Look at the radar at 4:45 AM:

This is like the weak version of the bow echo from early May.  There is some wind, but mostly just a lot of rain and lightning.  It will get your attention as it moves through, with MCS rain to follow.

Jeremy will keep you updated on the holiday weekend forecast this morning.

Whew, Okay thanks Gary.  I'm glad to know your awake as I am just N of the bow and was thinking of what happened a couple weeks ago just N of the bow.  Some other channel said no rain this weekend.  Good thing I listened to you guys and covered up my golf cart charger as I have to leave it outside the garage to charge.

Yes, this is amazing this morning. We thought there would be a few thunderstorms, but this is a huge organized area.  An entire MCS moving in.

Yep it is VERY windy my hubby said. Power is out and the lightening show is something else he said. Of course I am not at home to enjoy it. Figures!!!!! He said no hail so far. Poor thing...I woke him up and said.."move the vehicles in and tie down the trampoline...a bow echo is coming!!" He actually got up and did it.

I think this organized line suprised everyone.   It will be very nice after the first line goes by and we get some good soaking rain.   It will make for a steamy weekend for sure!!!

Not too bad here in Paola as the first wave of this thing passes through.  We had quite of bit of lightning and thunder and some moments of heavy rain but no wind or hail, thank heavens.  It's quiet for now, dogs are settling some, wish it would move out in time for my walk with Windy, she's ready to go!  I'm glad I brought everything inside last night that might not weather a storm and put the patio umbrella down.  Thanks for the heads up on this!

While not severe, that was probably one of the most INTENSE thunderstorms we have had all season here in Lenexa. It started off with some strong wind gusts, probably 40-50 mph. The trees were pretty bent over and lost some twigs. Then rain and light show started. Really intense lightning that lasted a LONG time. And the neat thing was there was no wind for most of the storm! Only at the very beginning was there any wind. But the lightning was something else. Haven't seen that much intense lighting for a while! Just shows you don't have to have severe weather to have an awesome storm!

Oh ya, I missed the forecast last night. Was this in the forecast? Or was the organized line a surprise. I sure didn't expect anything like this tonight. But I sure enjoyed it. :)

Thanks!

How long will this loud thunder and bright lightening last here up north (near Liberty)?  I'm finding it a bit difficult to get back to sleep...but my eyes really want to go back to sleep!  : )

My dad is flying in this morning (arriving around 9:55) from Texas.  Are there any current or anticipated flight delays?

Man...this thunder is LOUD!

And I will add that it is even harder to go back to sleep after reading Gary say that its a weak version of the bow echo in early May, considering we were about six blocks or less from the KC North tornado and had lots of damages.

Well there's some good news for our friends out to our west. I just combed through all the SPC storm reports and, despite the fact that the Wichita news media reported that the town of Protection Kansas had a direct hit, there are no reports of tornadoes in the Protection Kansas area, and no reports of any Injuries from any storms what so ever.

****************

That is probably the best news of all after all the tornadoes last night.

That was some lightning show last night! We were woken up by a loud boom of thunder as the storm moved in and were awake for the duration of the storm. It seemed like every other flash of lightning sounded like it was right above us. Quite an electrical storm, but beautiful to watch! I wish I'd had my rain gauge out so I know how much we got in Lenexa. **************** Lenexa had around 1" Jeremy
