Is the threat over?

Good evening bloggers,

Sean Wilson, inside the tornado package, is on at 6 PM tonight.  I will find some more video to show at 10 PM.

The winds are shifting to the west and convergence on the front may not be strong enough to produce any more thunderstorms.  I know this is sad for some of you as the thunderstorms race away from us, but for the rest of us, I am just glad its Friday and we didn't have any severe weather.

I am almost certain that the threat has ended for the KC metro area, and most of the viewing area, but let's keep tracking it.

Be sure to watch NBC Action News at 5,6, and 10 PM.  Have a great weekend.

Gary

Thanks for keeping us updated Gary, I did get the feeling all the storms would fire to the east, ahead of the cold front.    It was a close call again for the metro.   Amazing how many times this pattern has happened.

Gary,
Do you feel that points south and east of the metro ( i know you said most of the viewing area) are pretty much out of the threat for severe weather, even us in Warrensburg, Whiteman AFB area? If not, do you think we stand a chance of tornadoes?

-----------------

There is still a chance that it will back build into Warrensburg.  We will keep tracking it.

That's the way I felt, Joe.

I think that threat will be more to your east and north, wthrworrywart.  You could still have a little action but nothing like what is off to your east and north.

I hope that is the case Gary. Some of us weather phobics don't enjoy this at all. I am still trying to get my roof replaced from an earlier storm.  That is no big deal compared to how others have suffered from the weather.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion. When one's life is impacted by the weather, their wishes for excitement may change.

Do you all think that the Tornado Watch (or at least part of it) will be canceled any time soon?

Thanks

Yes,

I do think it will be cancelled within two hours, but they may wait a bit longer.

I cannot tell a lie. I'm glad we're not getting anything severe this evening. It seems the worst ones always come when my husband is out of tow. And that of course was going to be what happened this time. He'll be home Sunday. Kristi...I did get an awesome view of that storm when it was just south of Marceline. Huge cumulonimbus clouds, and they had a very rapid rising motion..The sun also illuminated the clouds, making them dark, except for the tops, which were a bright white...Too bad I didnt take any pictures, it is hard to describe it, but it was very beautiful, but menacing.

I still think it should of hit Marceline though  =]

hey everyone,
I have a question regarding the "cold front" I am looking at current radar and there is a line of storms to the south of Warrensburg. Does this mean the front has passed KC and is somewhere near Warrensburg and thats why the storms are lining up to the south of me?
If so, does this mean our chances of storms here are done?

Nick Rau said:

WOW that is the word for Sean's video, yea that was a bit close, very intense, very cool, very dangerous.   Another thing that we need to watch for a while is how much rain falls in the region and up to our north, right now they predict the Missouri River at St. Joseph to crest at 24.7 feet which would be 6.7 feet above flood stage, thankfully the levees around the city are pretty good and I wouldn't get too excited unless it was forecast to go over say 30 feet, but for other outlying areas it is something to watch, and for people that are planning on being near or on the river especially!!

--------------------

Nick,

Yes, it is something we are watching.  This weather pattern can go in one of two directions as we move through June.  #1:  It will continue doing what it is doing, and just enough rain to keep it from serious flooding, or #2:  MCS activity that slows down and dumps way too much rain.  I am not sure yet which one will happen with this pattern.
