10:40 PM update

Stay tuned to NBC for continuing severe weather coverage overnight!

The line is moving thru the city right now and the leading edge of the squall line/bow echo should push thru a good part of the city by 11:00 p.m.  After the leading edge moves thru the threat for severe weather will be greatly diminished or done for the night.

Here's how the line was looking as it approached Kansas City.

The severe weather threat will continue for areas east of Kansas City thru about 1-2 a.m. Please send in your storm reports, photos, and rain totals.  Thanks for the great comments tonight and I know everyone is passionate during severe weather but let's be accepting of everyone's thoughts.

I know many disagree with me, but I agree with what Gary said on the air about us being Very Lucky tonight. I get excited with the weather too but prefer it not hit heavily populated areas. I am glad to have the rain and a little light show, but I have no need for destruction to life and property. Thanks for the great weathercast tonight Gary and Jeremy!

Just had a good booming thunderclap.  It sounded like a bunch of boom, boom, boom, boom in a row.  The power looks like it has gone out on the West side of Iowa and 6th here in Lawrence.  It's a nice change, usually it is the East side that goes out!  Got to love the power company here in Lawrence.  I have no idea how much rain we got, but it was a nice light show to watch earlier when the line moved through.

I've been sitting out on the deck of my apartment watching for the past 25 minutes.  What a perfect storm to watch!

Like I said yesterday, Kansas City will NOT have much of anything in the way of severe weather.  Almost this entire line of thunderstorms is not severe.  The SPC overdid the severe weather risk for the entire area.  None of what has happened has been any where close to high risk levels and not really even moderate risk for most of the area.  We will see what happens as the storms move east.

******************

I'm very happy that was not a huge severe weather outbreak.  But still there was some damage in NW MO & NE KS.  So not everyone was spared.

I think the couple of immature posters ruin it for the rest - maybe we need the blog to be moderated.

The fact that no disaster materialized is a good development - the NOAA folks did a superb job - this was (and still is) a volatile and dangerous situation.  Folks that do not understand this lack true understanding of not only meteorology but also statistics.

Those of you that actively discussed today well done - keep it up - and do not let those with juvenile behavior affect you. I simply do not read their posts! It makes the experience much more pleasant!

So I know we are still in the middle of these current storms, but for the weather team, any thoughts at all on when this constant rain and storm threat will end?  It seems like ever since the winter weather ended, we've been having rain or storms at least every few days.

And I thought this weekend was going to be dry the whole time, but I've seen/read a few times that now its going to rain on Sunday.  WHEN WILL IT ALL END!!!!!!

How does this fit into the LRC and what can that tell us about the not so distant future?  During the winter storms several of us feared what the spring would look like...and it looks like our fears were justified!

We did have a plane divert to STL, as he couldn't get in before the line.  I think they'll get stuck there until it passes thru STL, that line goes from MN all the way to Mexico!  No where to dance around it!

Got the weather radio...got it set up.  Rain and a little bit of wind came and went and the baby and kiddo slept right through it.  Got a little concerned at one point because I heard the train sound but then again I live VERY close to a railroad track.  Nothing really to report except for a LOT of rain here near the "Three Trails Crossing", aka the triangle.

Around 3:30 this afternoon 2 miles east of Brookville, KS at Hwy 140 and S Wyman Rd there was a brief gustnado along the gust front of the same supercell that later produced a confirmed tornado in Clay County, KS and in areas of far northeastern KS and northwestern MO. Large branches and small trees torn away and uprooted.  Winds along gust front exceeded 70mph.

I would not come back to harp on an OPINION that I made earlier if it weren't for something happening now that perfectly illustrates why I feel that way.  Apparantly I'm one of the bad eggs that ruins it for everybody because I dared to comment against the majority (I thought I managed to do so in a civil manner, but I guess it was still considered bashing because most obviously disagreed with me .)  Anyway, the implication was made in the blog before this one that Knob Knoster was less at risk than the Metro...the way it and many other predictions was/are worded, a first time reader could've read that, might have assumed that it came from official channels, and gone to bed thinking all was well...and Johnson CO. Mo. later got tornado warned.(don't know if it still is right now)  This is the last I will write on the subject, assuming it even gets posted.  I felt the need to defend my position due to the retro bashing, even though I honestly feel I that I stated my opinion without being hateful to Kristi.  (I will understand why, if this doesn't get through... I feel better for just writing it) ****************** There have been a lot of comments. But the weather team made it clear that the threat for severe weather was on the leading edge of this line. That is exactly what prompted the warning for your area and we stressed that severe weather was possible in all locations along the leading edge. Hopefully this helps to keep the weather teams thoughts clear from others. Jeremy

Gary and Jeremy you guys did an awesome job tonight as per usual!   ******************* The severe threat for tornadoes, hail, etc. is done I think for the metro. The squall line is off to the east and with it the worst of the weather. Jeremy

All,
Because of this very imformative blog I was not as worried about last nights storm as I was Tuesday's storm. Everyone pretty much kept their heads and did a good job reporting what was going on. I think that this blog is a great way to share weather related information amongest ourselves. Especially since a lot of the main bloggers seem to be very knowledgable and if you are a avid reader of this blog you will see that they are often right with the guesstimates. Thanks Gary for the accurate as usual forecast.  You gave me enough peace of mind to go to bed at 10:30 and sleep like a baby last night down here in Cass County.

There are too many chit-chatty personal comments on this blog.  Small talk is fine but some people on here are using it as a chat board and it is tiresome wading through all the personal stuff to see what is going on weather wise in the metro.  I know others surely feel the same way.
