There were also 5 reports of tornadoes in the viewing area Thursday evening. All of those reports were in far northwest Missouri. We were the first to break into programming right after the 6pm news ended to keep our viewers to the north updated during the warnings. Overall with the setup for Thursday, I think we got off pretty easy with the small number of tornadoes reporter and isolated strong wind reports. Here is a picture of the damage in Holt County from a possible tornado. This looks like possibly a trailor?

I'll post the NWS storm surveys when they are completed. I'd guess that 2-4 tornadoes occurred over northwest Missouri last evening.
Now the focus shifts to the weekend and our next good chance of thunderstorms. For tonight there is a chance of a few thunderstorms developing as warmer and more moist air begins to flow back into the region. As I write there are a few showers in Henry county and they have been drifting slowly north/northeast. The showers and thunderstorms shouldn't be too widespread tonight, but just be aware there could be more rumbles tonight. Not expecting severe weather for our immediate area though. If any of these are lingering around early tomorrow we will track them on an early edition of NBC Action News Today from 7-8am. We are on early due to the French Open on NBC.
On Saturday winds will be gusty out of the south-southwest and will likely top 35 mph at times. Saturday looks warm and humid, with dew points pushing back to around or just above 70. So the A/C will likely get a workout again very soon...if you turned it off today.
Sunday will see a cold front sag into the region...especially the later we get into the day. This will trigger showers and thunderstorms along the front as it hits our very warm and moist air. With the slow movement of the front and several disturbances riding along the boundary heavy rain will be a concern Sunday into Monday. As of right now I feel pretty confident thinking that some parts of the viewing area could see 1-3" of rain...maybe more. I'd like to see how this trends over the next 12-24 hours before we try to get more specific on what areas will see the heaviest of the rain and how much. But just be aware if you have a wet basement or live near a rising river/stream...that the worst may still be ahead. Severe weather-wise there is a slight risk Sunday/Monday...with the main threat looking like hail/strong winds.
Below is the rainfall forecast from the 18Z GFS thru Monday.

These are the weekend weather highlights and details that we will focus on during our weathercasts this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday and I'll keep you updated all weekend long!
