Thunderstorms will turn our way

Good late evening bloggers,

We are getting ready for the 10 PM weathercast.  Right off the top of the newscast we will quickly go over our weather situation and then our news department will go into the tornado that hit the boyscout camp north of Omaha, in Iowa.  And, I will be showing the rainfall forecast from you guys, and from us in a few minutes.

The blogger rainfall forecast is 1.55".  I am forecasting 1.4" north and 3.9" south.  In the morning we will try to pin down which area is considered north, and which area is considered south.

We still think the thunderstorms will stay west of the viewing area until after midnight, and not get to KC until 4 to 6 AM.

Gary

Ok, Hail as long as the big storms stay where you live that is fine with me.

Just piled more dirt along the foundation. Hope this helps with water coming in at the floor level on the seams. Well see. And of course insurance is being difficult on the barn. I need a weather break! Hope we get one soon. Once again canceld my trail ride for this weekend. It will be too muddy to ride. :(

Hey Farmgirl what company do you have your insurance with?  If they are being to difficult there is always the state insurance commissioner.  I sure hope it isn't Farm Bureau.  Regardless, keep after them and document the time, day, who you talked to and the topics discussed.  Insurance companies are getting worse all the time.

I am very confused...Gary said the storms wont be here until 5 or 6 in the morning but the watch we are in ends at 3 why is that?

-------------------

The Storm Prediction Center has us on the eastern edge of the watch.  The line is moving a bit slower than they were thinking, so I still say it gets here around 4 to 6 AM.

yes i am a bit confused with the whole weather situation, i know we are predicting a lot of rain over the next couple days, will it be raining all day or just big storms that produce lots of rain? i watched the news and it seemed the focus was tomorrow morning so I am not sure what to expect the day and friday.

I don't think any of us should be terrified. because the tornadic cell looks to be weakening a little bit and that last storm is becoming more linear. but that's up to Gary to say.

HailJonathan said:

the salina storm just took a left turn and for the moment is almost moving due north and the storm behind that doesn't look classic its a supercell but it's elongated. has a slight notch on the southern edge but the top side of it is bowing out. So I don't know how much longer it could remain tornadic but we have several hours to watch it.

Things have changed.   That's my up to date armchair forecast.  While KC is cool, folks out West may be surprised.   I have no idea what KC should expect.  It seems as if everything may have shifted more south.  Still, we'll be on the early morning weak storm issue.  Gary and the Team mentioned this was a possibility.  This might mean fewer issues with Thursday evening.

Ya know...come September I will be harping for it to rain more. LOL!!! This is sooooo the way it goes around here.

If you had to give a rain total for Marceline, MO, what would you say?

I am going to say 1.9 inches guessing that the thunderstorms will be slow moving, and will dump some heavy rains.  Another question....

Are you seeing a chance that our area will be in the "ring of fire" based on this years weather pattern, and the LRC?

Thank you....Alex

I find it interesting how after having different events, terms become much looser as to what is thought to be seen.

In this case...a "bow echo".  Here is a better example of the "bowing" effect in this line north and a bit east of Des Moines...

http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=pan&prevzoom=out&num=1&frame=0&delay=15&scale=0.750&noclutter=0&ID=DMX&type=N0R&showstorms=0&lat=0&lon=0&label=you&map.x=400&map.y=240&scale=0.750&centerx=351&centery=271&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0&lightning=0&lerror=20&num_stns_min=2&num_stns_max=9999&avg_off=9999&smooth=0

Yes, its a long link..but shows it very well.  Look at it in SRV mode.

So the only reason I check weather.com is because I like the interactive map to see the radar.  So I clicked on it and watched the line of storms through Kansas.  When you put it into motion and pause it at about 12:25 EST, the bottom part of the cell looks like two fingers and a thumb, and like the fingers are just "walking" towards KC.

Just thought it was kind of interesting and hoping it doesn't mean something :)

Music, I've been on radar all evening what appars to be happening is that most of the energy is being transfered to the tornadic storm which just went through manhattan but the southern storm is now merged with the tornadic storm in a somewhat weakened state and new storms are trying to fire south of it. but overall it doesn't look to bad for the Kansas City area I don't think. I'll let Gary Field the rest of that if he's interested.
