A lot of lightning to the west tonight

Good early morning bloggers,

We are just in the wrong spot for thunderstorms.   Very heavy thunderstorms active with frequent lightning are located along a line to the west and southwest of Topeka.  There is no indication that they will shift eastward, but we will keep watching it.

Jeremy Nelson will have complete details soon, beginning at 5 AM on NBC Action News Today.

A pretty massive lightning show on the south horizon. Just came in from watching it on the deck. There is almost continuous lightning. SPC radar on the laptop indicates the storms will miss us to the south. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued on a number of these cells for large hail, most notably near Iola, where they have reported golfball size hail. I'm hitting the sack since there's no imminent severe threat in the city tonight.

Good cloudy early summer morning to the Weather Team!!! Currently sitting at 66 degrees under cloudy skies here in SW Lawrence this morning. We had a trace of rain here Saturday night-one wind gust that blew our front door open since it had not been fully closed-nice huh??? LOL

We have kind of been in Steelers Wheel land the past 10 days: thunder storms to the left of me MCS to the right here I am stuck in the middle.... I think it will be interesting to see this morning how long the clouds hang on here-we are kind of on the  Western edge of the cloud shield here in Lawrence but it looks like from the water vapor imagery there are some breaks around Concordia but there is another MCS in the Dakotas-will we get cloud debris from those?? Pretty bad when I am thinking cloud cover is interesting-not much to amuse me huh?? LOL

I do however think the next 24-36 hours could be somewhat interesting.

1. There appears to be a weak surface high pressure area over Arkansas that is trying to give us a somewhat southerly wind flow today

2. There does appear to be a weak boundry meandering around the area right now that looks to kind of just sit around

3. The 06Z GFS and previous runs I think are trying to show a weak 500 vort rotating through here later tomorrow as well as a weak kink at 700 MB and thus the 6Z GFS does put some decent qpf over the area tomorrow night.

4. Will be interesting to see how all of this comes together (can you hear Paul singing right now??) over the next 24 hours.

Just some random thoughts that as always I hope they make sense!!!! Have a great day and as always, thanks for reading!!!

Oh: sad day today with the passing of George Carlin-man was he awesome!!!
