More Storms Tonight?

Watch NBC Action News HD at 10pm as we track thunderstorms using LIVE:ESP!

Good evening everyone!  So far this afternoon/evening we have seen scattered thunderstorms mainly north of I-70 and most have stayed below severe levels.  Vivid lightning and heavy rain have been the main concerns with storms so far.  The threat of thunderstorms will continue this evening and tonight and the overall coverage of the storms may increase.  This is due to the stationary/warm front still draped across the region and also the low level jet pushes moisture up and over the front.  The little ULL to our north is also hanging around the region.  The RUC shows how storms may develop across the city as the evening wears on.  Some storms are also possible with this solution in Kansas.

The greatest threat for rain still looks to be along and north of I-70(especially in MO), but if the back building of storms occurs then some could drop a little farther south and west.  Once again this is just the RUC showing the wetter trend, but some of the storms have tried to back build close to KC.  There is still a slight risk of severe weather tonight...with the main concern being hail and strong winds, although if severe weather occurs it should be very isolated.  The storms will be prolific lightning producers so it may be a loud night if the storms visit your backyard.  Also, like earlier today the rainfall rates could be 1-2" an hour.

Sorry Jeremy I did not get any pics. I was fishing on the boat with my friend, untill the storm got close enough to see lightning, and we raced home before it started raining, and I completely forgot to grab the camera. I wish I would of, that shelf cloud was awesome, and the clouds behind that, which the rain was falling were an amazine blue green color.

I am mad I did not think to grab the camera while it was hailing hard. There was very little rain, and it was mainly hail with that 2nd storm. It looks like more storms are on the way here in Marceline.

I live in West Central Jackson County South of I 70, Do I have a prayer for a storm tonight? doesn't looked to be the trend. at least I had a teeny storm last night.

*********************

Your chance is pretty small, but can't be ruled out.  More of the stuff will stay north of I-70 in MO.  Looks like the backbuilding is not occurring like the RUC was forecasting.

JoCo Executive shows a trace for the day, and some nearby PWS show up to .04 inches.

Two hours for that amount?  Seems like it is plausible...but doubt it happens too.

Hey everyone. I haven't posted in a while but I was just wondering when the storm chances for the Liberty/Claycomo area were going to be done tonight.

Thanks

If nothing pops close to the metro by 1am...I think our chance has passed.  For KC the chance at this point is 20%.

Randy:  A simple map to see the fronts can be found here on the main page of:  http://www.wunderground.com/US/Region/US/Fronts.html
Im sure there are many more that have more detail but this is a good site

Winds are south at KCI.  Front is continuing to lift north.  I don't think storms will be able to develop south of the front tonight.

Jeremy,

The storms seem to be back building back toward and south of St. Joe. I think the RUC had the storms back building a bit further south, but none the less they seem to be back building to me.

Any thoughts?.....Alex

Looks like Marceline is about to get round number 4 of thunderstorms tonight, not counting the rain and storms this morning. Awesome lightning show just to the north. I am not sure how much rain has fell, but I would say 1.5" so far.

Those storms to the north look to be slow moving, so idk, maybe another inch to 1.5 inches.

I wonder if anything alse will form. At least I got to see some fairly heavy, and nice sized hail today!

There's no need for me to post, but once again, zero precipitation last night near Liberty.  At least someone in the area got storms, otherwise the forecast of storms (50% according to NWS) would have been a complete bust. ************** Keep in mind that would not be a complete bust if the chance is less than 100%. Our % chances mean that this type of weather setup/situation would produce rain 'x' percent of the time. So the NWS forecast in my opinion didn't bust. There were also t-storms in the metro during the late afternoon/early evening. Jeremy

So what does 50% chance of rain mean?  50% of the area will get rain or it will rain half the time under conditions like they were yesterday. ************* The second part... Jeremy

I can see the anvil of the KMCI cell.  Neat to look at.

As far as rainfall, looking at the storm total radar estimates, a small corridor from between Chillicothe to Brookfield just north of HWY 36 shows 9.1 inches as the max rainfall.

Pretty impressive.

From an area from Carrolton to Macon to Kirksville to Princeton to Albany, there looks to be a nice swath of 3-5 inches from this last storm.

For most within the metro loop...not much at all, if any.
