Cold Front Approaches...Possible Watch

Watch NBC Action News HD at 5, 6, & 10pm for as we track thunderstorms on LIVE:ESP!

Good afternoon!  The past 24 hours have produced numerous complexes of thunderstorms across the region.  Outside of the southwest side of the metro...many spots in the city have recorded very little rain over the past two days.  That may change for some this evening as a cold front nears the area and will at least give us a chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Part of the region from Nebraska to Kansas and Missouri is being monitored for a possible watch right now.  If thunderstorms do head into the viewing area they would like reach far northern areas late this afternoon or in the early evening.  Then start to move southeast and possibly form into more of a line.  The greatest threat with the storms in regards to severe weather is hail and strong winds.  If you have outdoor plans this evening...like going to the Roayls game.  I would bring the rain gear with just in case.  Usually if you haul the rain gear in the rain stays away...so a win-win.

Here is the area that is being monitored for a possible watch.

The cold front is still back in Nebraska.  We will continue to see sunshine and warm into the mid 80s in most spots yet today with dew points in the mid 60s.

Just like the previous days some areas will likely see heavy rain this evening for a time while others will miss out all together.  If you want rain hopefully you see some...because it may not be until next Thursday(ish) before a decent chance of rain returns.

Make sure to NBC Action HD for the most up-to-date information on the storms.  If any of the storms turn severe we will let you know first!

Thanks, Jeremy, for taking the time to do this amidst the complaints. We know you're tired and have worked alot of days in a row and we appreciate that you find time to do this for us.

Thanks Jeremy for the new blog.  I live in Jackson County so it seems like I am just on the edge of the possible watch.  I am hoping for some big loud very wet thunderstorms!  I love the fact that I have not had to water my lawn yet.  The other bills are enough to handle now without the huge water bill on top of it!

Big Twist in my mind.

Well. I have A Flight Tomorrow Morning to San Diego and Baja California/Mexico. Its for my Mission Trip.

I dont really think that Tonights Storm will affect a 9:25AM flight. Its Nonstop so theres no worry of stoping anywhere.

Also do you think that Flooding rains will delay flights.

I think you should be fine.

I don't think KCI is gonna get flooded. San Diego isn't flooded just smoky from all the other fires.

whirlygirl,
I like how you stood up for the weather team.  I know things can go on that prevent a new blog to post and we don't know what is going on in their lives to know how busy they are or whatever is going on.  I have also learned that if there is an MD out then shortly after we will get a new one.   Sometimes we get anxious though, but we need to always keep in mind what a GREAT job the weather team does!!

Since I will be at "K" tonight, I'm liking what I'm seeing with the NWS backing their percentages down to 20% and yours down from 80% to 50% for the afternoon time frame....Keep it coming...down...down....down....hehe!

Hi gang,
Just stopped by to say Hi. :)  The weather has not been really active here in KC as of late.  But real life has.  I saw the MD and wanted to comment.  It looks like we are on the eastern edge.  Let's see what happens.

I am heading down to Truman Lake next week for a few days.  It will be good to get away for a few days. n I am hoping for some good weather while I am down there.

Jeremy is a busy guy running things by himself at the moment.  Don't give him a hard time, OK? :)  Jeremy, I have been watching you when I can.  Nice job. :)

Gosh - I'm off today and have been busy cleaning!  Fun stuff!  Just sat down to check the blog for my husband who is working trying to stain a deck and wanted me to see what time I thought it was going to start raining.  Sounds like all y'all were having a bash-the-weather-team kind of morning!  That's not nice!  Although, I think I might have had fun getting in the middle of it!  :)  No complaints, actually -- I think it's very nice that the guys take the time to have this blog with the "extra" stuff that they don't have time for on the weather forecasts on the news!  So thank you!  It's nice and sunny here in Kignsville - not too hot either.  Very breezy.  Well, it was five minutes ago but now the trees are still!  Oh well.  Laura

Thanks for stopping by this afternoon!

Does anyone know how long they keep the MD up waiting to decide if they are going to issue a watch?

Also, does anyone know if the rain chances have gone down (I have just heard things)  or when the rain might start?
thanks
Becky

Becky,

Rain chances go up as the evening wears on.  In KC probably after 8pm the way it looks right now.  Rain chance this evening/tonight is 50%.

Jeremy, I'm umpiring softball in Gladstone tonight.  Do you think all of the games will get in? They end around 9:45. Thanks!

There should be some storms around at that time.  But once again not everyone is going to see rain.  I wouldn't plan on a rain out yet...

Jeremy, I'm hoping the POSSIBLE rain chances you spoke of next Thursday will be caused by a cold front that will allow us all to have a beautiful Fourth of July without terribly hot temperatures.  But then again, what is the Fourth without hot temperatures?!

Erin,

That is a long way off.  But I wouldn't wish for a front around a holiday this time of year.  Fronts usually move slow and can stall out.  Hopefully that won't be the case!

I'm holding you to that 8pm ETA on those storms!  I have a ride to MSN that leaves at 705 pm and cruising through big updrafts ain't fun when my feet aren't on the ground, LOL!  We'll see how good "Maverick" is at dodging every 50K foot top all the way to MSN!  ;)  Now I gotta figure out NE of here from 7-8...
