The weather records are about to close on another month so it is time to look back. Overall June was average to well above average in precipitation and pretty close to average in regards to average monthly temperatures. Here is a look at some impressive rain totals across the region from fellow bloggers. I'll also add in a few of the automated weather stations.
- Lenexa, KS 9.30-10.90"
- Pleasant Hill, MO 10.85"
- Kingsville, MO 9.85"
- Overland Park, KS 7.50-8.60"
- SW Grain Valley, MO 8.60"
- Olathe, KS 7.93-8.52"
- Sedalia, MO 7.40"
- Independence, MO 7.00"
- KCK 18th and State 6.60"
- NW Lawrence, KS 6.11"
- Central Jefferson County 5.12"
- Trimble, MO 3.82"
Automated NWS stations
- Lee's Summit, MO 8.02"
- Chillicothe, MO 7.79"
- St. Joseph, MO 6.54"
- Downtown Kansas City 5.72"
- KCI Airport 4.31"
Of all the rain totals I've seen for the month from the blog and NWS, KCI has been one of the lowest. The official total at KCI will finish 0.13" below average. The one thing I found surprising was the longest dry spell during June was 3 days! That occurred over the weekend and today!
Temperatures were also very close to average at KCI with average monthly temperatures a hair above average. June only produced one 90 degree day at KCI. I'm sure many people noticed a little welcome relief in the electric and water bills this month!
Hopefully you had a chance to catch the 5 & 6pm shows today as I talked about the 4th of July forecast. Right now the main focus this weekend will be a cold front moving in sometime late Wednesday/Wed. Night and then lingering around the region until early Friday. Right now the best rain chance in KC is from Wednesday evening/night thru Thursday. If clouds and showers are persistent on Thursday...highs would then need to be cut back into the 70s. Right now we are going 80. Here is a look at a 6 hour GFS forecast rainfall map. This would be valid at 1 a.m. Thursday morning. This gives a good idea of the thunderstorms that may develop along the cold front.

The front should push far enough south to let in some very comfortable and dry air for Friday p.m. into the weekend. Great news if you have a favorite fireworks celebration or tradition that you will be enjoying with family and friends on the 4th!
