Watch NBC Action News HD at 10pm & from 5-7am as we track a cold front and rain chances for Wednesday!
Good evening everyone! We saw a beautiful start to July today with a high of 86 at KCI and a comfortable morning low of 58! The low of 58 was only 4 degrees away from the record low for the date. For Wednesday we will continue to see warm to hot temperatures with highs around 90. The main difference will be an increase in dew points...as they will bounce back to around 70. This will make it feel pretty sticky outside by afternoon.
A cold front will approach the viewing area during the late afternoon and gradually move thru Wednesday Night. Rain chances will increase during the afternoon north of highway 36 and spread south during the evening. In Kansas City the showers and thunderstorms should hold off until after 7-8 p.m. The one tricky thing right now is the complex of thunderstorms over central Nebraska tonight. With a northwest flow aloft it may be possible for some of these storms to move into the viewing area after 3-4 a.m. The 00Z NAM does have some moisture and lift present at 12Z on Wednesday. We'll have to watch this closely and see how it tracks into tonight. Chances are most areas stay dry...but sometimes these type of thunderstorms find a way in here with a northwest flow. So don't be surprised if a clap or two of thunder is heard tonight...especially north. Gary will have an update tomorrow morning on rain chances as he will be back to work bright and early!
Here is the 00Z NAM 6 hour rainfall forecast for tomorrow evening. It does look like a nice line of showers and thunderstorms should push thru the area. The latest data does include a chance of thunderstorms on the 4th of July...mainly first half of the day. This is just the NAM but we may be including a rain chance on the 4th. Best chance still looks to be around or south of I-70.

For the latest POWERCAST tune into NBC Action News at 10 p.m. Have a great night and a super 4th of July!
