Good morning bloggers,
There is a weak cold front moving our way. It is hard to pick out on the surface map (below), as the wind fields are extremely weak.

The very weak cold front can be seen in different ways. The best way is to do a pressure analysis, drawing in the isobars, which I did not do on this map. Another way is to find the wind shift line, which is how I drew in the front above. The winds are very light, but completely calm near Lincoln, NE. This is where the front is early this morning. It is moving very slowly, and it will still be northwest of Kansas City this evening. The front is going to be important in forecasting who will see very heavy thunderstorms later today. The targeted area still appears to be right near Kansas City and by mid-afternoon we should begin to see signs of whether a flooding rain event may evolve near by. So, check back in later today. The latest GFS model still has a 3 to 4 inch bullseye stretching right along I-70. I favor this position, based on what I am analyzing this morning.
This is somewhat similar to the set-up of last Wednesday. We had some major hail damage last week with that situation. We are in a slight risk of severe weather today, but it is a bit warmer aloft, and hopefully the hail will be less. The main threat will still be flooding, and like last Wednesday, a few spots will get a lot of rain, and most other areas will have much less amounts.
I have been listening to the latest Coldplay album. Does anyone like Coldplay? Since we are talking cold fronts this morning, it made me think about my favorite group. They are about the hottest group on the planet right now. This album grows on me everytime I listen to it. It is just awesome (their fourth album), I think I like every song on the album. I just thought I would throw that out there this morning. I love it!
Have a great day! We will have the blog updated when we see any thunderstorm development. Meteorologist Brett Anthony will have live updates on NBC Action News through the morning, and with the new data at 11 AM, on NBC Action News Mid-day. Our old set is still being ripped out. It is a bit scary in there for our weather team. Everyone else has moved downstairs, but we are still in the studio while all the construction takes place. Today, they will be taking down some pretty big stuff. So, be patient as we will have a lot of distractions the next three weeks as the new set begins construction soon. It will debut during the first week of August.
