Evening update.....radar trends

Good evening everyone,

Today was a rather strange weather day.  Thunderstorms formed right over the city around 1 PM, dumping very heavy rain in spots.  While some of us had the heavy rain, others were left with just a few light showers.  This is very related to what happened last Wednesday, with a few differences to end up with very different results.  The early afternoon disturbance stablized the surface layer of the atmosphere.  If it were still 86 degrees outside at 5 PM, then the complex of thunderstorms wouldn't have fallen apart.  There is one area of thunderstorms well to the south, and a line in southeast Nebraska that still need to be watched.  Jeff Penner is just mumbling, unbelievable (several times), because he is going to need to water his lawn, which probably only had under 1/4 inch.

We will have an update at 6 PM.  And, then the new data will be here for the 10 PM newscast.

Have a great evening.

We had about .25 in SE Leavenworth Co. near Bonner.  Would have hoped for more, but I'm glad we didn't get a big thunderboomer like last week.  I still have big limbs and a couple broken off trees from that one.

Looks like the 500mb vort flattened out and moved S and W of the area.  Without it's help and with the stabilized environment - well..this is what you get.

The front isn't bringing much of a focusing point and needed the slow moving vort to help the storms.

The GFS over did it again, but this time did much better with the southern focus.

.76 here in Paola, I hope that is all for us.  I collected what fell in water barrels and will use it to water my flowers, still haven't had to break out the hoses yet around here, we are still plenty wet.  It's cloudy here and I'm afraid we are probably in for  more rain at least that is how it looks on the radar.  Looking forward to the sun coming back....*sigh*.

Should we expect the line of storms that are in Nebraska to make it to the metro area tonight? Also, is anyone expecting them to be severe? I thought I saw that it had a Tornado Warning in that line. Are we expecting anytype of severe weather tonight or into Wednesday morning?

Thanks

Gary, I got caught on I-35 and Mission during that deluge just before 2.  The rain was pretty loud and then the hail started coming down pretty hard.  I haven't seen it rain that hard very many times in my lifetime.

Thanks so much for that link & player.  I got the video uploaded.  Since it's a phone cam it's so so quality, but you can still see the flash flooding.  Click on my name and it'll will take you to the blog.

Luckily, no one was dumb enough to drive through it, everyone I saw backed up and turned around.

Ed,

You were in that ridiculously heavy cell.  I went through it on my way to work, and it was around 4 inches per hour.  It was that heavy.  If it would have lasted a bit longer we would have had a major flash flood.  We just missed it today.  I doubt my house got even 1/4 inch.

not when it's in open water and not hurting anyone. when they are in open water I like when they get real strong because they are so beautiful. Hurricanes are so cool. I love them. of course there's going to be someone on here that's going to bash this comment so before you do, remember what Gary said about accepting other's opinions about the weather so we can get along and not have to be baby sat.
