Good morning NBC Action Weather bloggers,
You can continue to watch the construction of the NBC Action News set and Forecast Center by clicking on the following link:

They have successfully taken apart our old set, and moved it out of the studio. The next step is putting in a brand new tile floor. This process should begin today. This entire process will take another 3 to 4 weeks. Right now, it feels good in there as it is like one big empty room. But, this is about to change.
Our next chance of thunderstorms is showing up for early Friday. A weak disturbance will track across Kansas tonight and into western Missouri on Friday. You can see an upper level disturbance by looking at various levels of the upper atmosphere. Look at the 500 mb forecast valid at 7 AM Friday below:

This map, above, is the 500 mb forecast valid tomorrow morning. There are many features that are obvious, and others not so obvious that I will point out:
- Hurricane Bertha, a weak category 2 hurricane, is shown with the X well off the east coast.
- There is a rather strong upper level storm tracking across the United States/Canada border in Montana on Friday morning.
- The main jet stream is also waving across the northern US/Canada border.
- An upper level disturbance (black dotted line) is moving through Kansas early Friday morning.
- The Anticyclone is weak and off the New Orleans coast, another weak one is off the southwest coast
The storm, moving across northern Montana, will drag a weakening cold front across our local area on Saturday morning. As long as these cold fronts keep coming, summertime heat will be kept under control. The models are suggesting that this front will move through dry on Saturday morning. There is a disturbance (the black dashed line) forecast to move through us early on Friday. This may be strong enough to form high based thunderstorms during the morning on Friday. I am expecting to see some picturesque cumulonimbus clouds during the first half of Friday. And, the anticyclone is weak and just off the Louisiana coast. There is still no sign of this building and strengthening, so no heat waves are in our near future.
Have a great Thursday! Check into our construction camera from time to time. There has been a request that we move the camera during one of our weathercasts so you can see us as we present the weathercast at the green wall. I will try to get this done today at 5 or 6 PM tonight.
