Watch NBC Action News HD at 5, 6, & 10 p.m. for the latest on the weekend forecast and possible rain chances!
The weekend is almost here! About right on schedule some clouds and showers have arrived across the area. Everyone is seeing the increase in cloud cover this afternoon and some locations north and south of the metro are seeing a few showers. So far no lightning strikes have been indicated and I think with the weakening trend of the showers it is very likely that these will just remain plain old showers this afternoon and evening. As of this writing the showers are mainly near and along highway 36 north of KC and also down to the south around Miami, Linn, and Anderson counties. If the radar trends hold the metro should stay mainly dry. It has been cool with just a few spots touching 70 today, KCI will likely see a high in the mid to upper 60s. If you are heading to a high school football game this evening it will be cool, but I think the showers should clear most of the area by kickoff of those games.
Here is a snapshot of the afternoon radar just after 2 p.m.

I'll add some thoughts about the weekend forecast after the latest model data comes out. It doesn't look very warm on Saturday with more clouds and another shower chance. Sunday will also have to be watched to see how quickly clouds and possible showers overspread the region. Monday looks potentially very cool and wet again! Also, more on Hanna and Ike on the newscasts and in the blog later!
