A quick Saturday morning update on our rain chances today. If you look at the rainfall forecast map that I posted last night the rain this morning is lining up almost exactly like this map. Rain chances in the metro are about 40% and greatest later this morning into the afternoon. Best rain chances are south of I-70 early and then moving northeast by afternoon. With lots of clouds around highs will be cool again...likely in the upper 60s in KC...cooler in areas that see rain for much of the day. Make sure to check out LIVE ESP for the latest radar trends. The start of the K-St., KU, and Missouri football games this evening look dry. Also, the Royals should have dry weather. Enjoy your Saturday!

Good evening bloggers! It was another cool September day across the region with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Keep in mind the average high is still in the low 80s! You can access our daily climate page on the main weather page each day!
Here is an update on Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike. Hanna will make landfall in the Carolinas tonight as either a very strong Tropical Storm or either a category 1 hurricane. The difference right now between Hanna's strength and hurricane force winds is only 4 mph. So either way it is going to create some problems in the mid-Atlantic. If you want to see the impact Hanna may have on the Chiefs-Patriots game on Sunday please check out this quick read.

Hanna will race north-northeast this weekend and move into Nova Scotia by late Sunday.
The greater concern down the road will be Hurricane Ike. Ike has been a major hurricane for the better part of the last 2+ days. When looking at hurricane forecasts from the National Hurricane center please keep in mind the day 4 and 5 tracks have a margin of error around 250-300 miles! So it is good to focus on the 1-3 forecast when looking at the hurricane forecasts. With that said, it is tough to ignore the forecast and the trend by many models to put Ike possibly into the Gulf of Mexico sometime next week. Here is the forecast path.
If Ike would make it into the Gulf of Mexico this would put a lot of stress on areas that have already had to prepare for one or more tropical systems this season.
Here is an evening look at the water vapor image associated with Ike. Earlier in the day Ike looked a little ragged, but it appears that the hurricane is beginning to strengthen once again and get reorganized. The dark colors represent dry air, and notic the dry air is not wrapping into the storm. Often times hurricanes encounter shear or dry air that will weaken them at some point in their life cycle.

Our weather for Saturday looks cool again with highs in the upper 60s to around 70. Clouds will also stream into the area once again. Showers will occur in parts of the viewing area. But the bulk of the rain should be south of I-70, or even the metro. However, some of these showers could creep into the metro so we still have a chance of showers in the Saturday forecast. Just look at how close the rain is to Kansas City!
