NBC Action Weather Blog

Final vote is now in

Good morning bloggers,

I asked the question yesterday and again this morning:  Do you want a cold and stormy winter?  And, you voted here in the blog.  Thank you very much for participating.  And, we had quite a few other votes come in our emails.  Here are the final results:

Yes:  59%  Yes to the cold and stormy winter

No:   41%  No, please warm and not so stormy and snowy

So, the yes votes win in this poll.  Election day is just two days away and the weather is looking outstanding for a great turnout across most of the nation.  A storm will be developing and moving across the western states.  We will be tracking the latest model trends tonight as Jeremy Nelson returns from his short trip.

Have a great day! The NEW DATA now comes in one hour earlier.  I love it!

Gary

Perhaps we need to start looking for storms when Jeremy is out of town as well?  LOL

I sure hope my candidate for presidency does better than my vote for warm, dry weather =).  Woudn't it be ironic if the election turns out quite similar in terms of percentage..hmmm.  That's enough politics, don't won't to ruin this gorgeous day.  It's sunny in Paola, the fog has lifted, the temperatures are on their way up, up, up!!  Keep 'em comin'.  I'm still predicting that warm, dry winter ;).
Nice to have you around this weekend Gary, sure hope Jeremy is having a nice trip.

My dog has been acting weird on his walks the last day or so- almost like he's spooked or something- wonder if it had to do with the fog- does it affect their sense of smell, hearing or something?  He has never acted this way before- very strange.  I am glad the vote for cold, snowy weather won!  If it has to be winter  it might as well be cold and snowy!  Dea

SPC puts us in a threat of Severe Weather Wed. What do you think Gary?

Andrew, probably a better chance for storms on the 12th.  Wednesday may be a "poof" thing as storms look to just miss us.

Good thing I have GaryB for contrast...lol

I think the SPC is underselling the digging of this storm just a bit.  I think there may be a secondary surface low at the tail that will enhance return flow a bit.  While not huge dewpoints available, it is possible to get into the 50s.  Temps easily will be near 70 or above.

With the polar draw of the cold dry air, thunderstorms are quite possible.  In looking at the progs, it does seem that KC ends up on the north side of a building LLJ.

I suspect thunderstorms are possible in the area, and would agree with the SPC, discrete mode is possible going to linear.  Much will depend on how deep the ULL digs.  Last time through [prior LRC cycle], the ULL and energy stayed near the border...looking at the last few storms that have come through, I am confident that it will dig more than expected.

I think the GFS has it close in location...and if you look at the 300mb, it shows that likely late Wed evening, the jet streak of 110kts+ will overtake the area.  Lots of PVA, moisture, and forcing...good diversion...me thinks thunderstorms are quite possible.  Possible some severe.

Haha..reading my last post made me laugh.  That is what happens when doing analysis during the Chief's game.  LOL   I said diversion...not sure where that came from..how about replacing that word with convergence.

This storm will be easier to analyze with more specifics tomorrow when more models can get in the mix in sampling the storm.

Good potential for SRH and sheer looks favorable...something to watch.

What a warm day today, the dense fog last night and this morning was very impressive to!
either way this storm seems pegged to bring wind, temp changes some rain and maybe some decent thunderboomers...
looking forward to it!

I don't have a bad feeling for Wednesday. If we get some thunderstorms maybe there will be some hail. But I bet that's the worst of it. I dislike the term "thunderboomers."
