Good morning bloggers,
First of all, the snowflake contest did not end. Our weather team only measured around 1/2 inch at the NBC Action News studios, so we are still waiting for the first inch. A few spots did end up with an inch, KCI officially recorded 0.9". And, the kids new how to maximize this minor snow. Look at the pictures below:
This snowman was built by Bill, Cooper, Ben, Hunter and Matthew in Overland Park. Great job using the small amount of snow available.

Here is Emiliy in Olathe with her snow dog wearing her dog Abby's collar.

This third picture is Tiffany in Liberty with her family of snow creatures:

So, what lies ahead? We are really narrowing in on this complex weather pattern. We believe we are in around a 51 day cycle. Go to www.LRCWeather.com for Jeff Penner's thoughts on this years LRC. A more active part of the weather pattern is about to affect the United States. We have yet to see a big Arctic air mass develop over Canada, but there are strong indications that we will see one form during the next 10 days and I may issue an Arctic Air Watch very soon. I am expecting everything to come together for at least one if not a few major winter storms later this month. In the mean time up and down we go with some big temperature swings in the forecast for the next 10 days.
Today is November Statistics Day:
November Stats:
- Highest temperature: 76 degrees on the 3rd
- Lowest temperature: 14 degrees on the 21st
- Average temperature: 43.2 degrees (+0.5)
- Total Precipitation: 1.59" (0.77" below average)
- Total Snowfall: 0.9" (right around average)
- The first 5 days of the month were in the 70s
Have a fantastic start to the work week. We will be tracking our next chance of snow on NBC Action News.
