Snowflake contest winners & weather update

Good evening everyone,

The snowflake contest ended at 3:23 PM on December 9th.  One of our viewers predicted the exact time and date!  Congratulations to Corey Werner (Warrensburg, MO) our Grand Prize winner.  Coming in second place was Nicole Rockstad of Shawnee, KS.  Here are the top 5 and their times:

  1. Corey Werner:  3:23 PM
  2. Nicole Rockstad:  3:34 PM (11 minutes off)
  3. Stephanie Pennington:  3:11 PM (12 minutes)
  4. Rick Goodwin:  3:09 PM (14 minutes)
  5. Maureen Austin:  3:43 PM (20 minutes)

Thank you to everyone who entered the NBC Action Weather Snowflake contest. And thank you to Eskew's Jewelers in Lee's Summit and Independence for providing the great prizes and sponsoring this years contest.

Now, back to the weather!  The latest data continues to show the strong Arctic front due in around Sunday afternoon.  The timing is right during the Chiefs game which would make that game interesting.  But, this timing will likely change by a few hours as we approach Sunday.  There is not a storm showing up with this cold air for us early in the week.  The week disturbances will be moving by and any one of these could produce some light precipitation.

Gary

Congratulations to Corey and Nicole! Those are some beautiful prizes that you won.

I'm liking the lower precep chances for next week. Hope it holds true to just a brief cold blast without the moisture. But I well know that we are several days out still and this is the mid-west where things can change quickly.

Ohhhh, the sunset is just gorgeous tonight. I have a beautiful view from my large living room windows to the west and the rosy sky  backdrop against my pasture with silhouetted horses in the background. Doesn't get much prettier than this!

As far as I can tell, KCI has not received their first inch of snowfall as of yet.

Has there ever been a winter where the National Weather Service has failed to officially record a 1" snow?

Grats folks!

Outside today was awesome. I'm looing forward to the chance of the cold blast next week. We need at least one good solid week of cold to remind us what Winter is. :)

It looks like a pretty good bit of moisture is starting to fill in on the radar.  Will we get more than a few flurries tonight?

Brent,
Gary had mentioned that it would be in the last 2 weeks of december when it was going to be active.  There was going to be a certain time in Jan and Feb.  I am sure you could go to lrcweather.com and see the winter forcast...
