Rain and snow showers tonight...update

11:15 PM update:

This fast moving disturbance which is producing the mixed showers will be out of here before there is any accumulation.  It may be cloudy into the morning on Friday.  The latest GFS run was cold with those disturbances I talked about in this mornings blog.  I will update the blog early on Friday!

Good evening everyone,

A band of precipitation has developed and is tracking south across the viewing area.  Some snowflakes are likely mixed in with the rain and if it gets heavier it could turn to all snow briefly. This is just a fast moving disturbance.  We will be tracking this area of rain and snow at 10 PM on NBC Action News.

Hey Gary,

It rained, then snowed here lightly tonight. We got a VERY light dusting in Marceline. My truck showed 35 while it was snowing.

I cant wait for the bitter cold, and possible precip chance mixed in. Maybe something will materialize, or a band will set up heavy, and stall.

Good Evening Gary,

Light rain out here in Western WYCO tonight. Temps seem to be holding steady at 36 with a North wind around 2 MPH. Looks like we are in for a nice warm up this weekend before a cool down early next week. I must admit, like Brent I was a bit disapointed to not see a big storm system ready to affect the Kansas City area early next week. I thought it was about time KC got a bigger storm based on the LRC. But either way it looks like we might see several rounds of precip through the week, so at least that will be a little bit of entertainment.

It's Snowing in Olathe!!  Isn't it possible that a little dusting could occur on what's left of the old snowpack?

It is a nice snow.  I will put an update on the blog with my thoughts in one minute.

I live in Blue Springs and I was able to make a snowball from the accumulation on the car. Not much but not in my wildest dreams would it snow half dollar size flakes enough to accumulate in 15 minutes to make a slushy snowball. It seems like we have been a bullseye so far this season.

WAS 1.7 INCHES OF SNOW ON DECEMBER 22 1989. HURRICANE ALICIA MADE

When I left work in Mission at 11:30 it was snowing great big monster flakes.  Just about perfect if it had been cold enough to stick. A heavy snowfall without wind is my favorite winter weather.

I see the exact matchup between this weekend's storm system and the Blizzard from late October - but it's not further south - it's actually a bit further north. The northern plains are going to get SLAMMED by this storm.

That Blizzard Watch in the northern Plains and upper Midwest is the most expansive one I've ever seen!
