Watch NBC Action News at 5 PM and after the game tonight for the Kansas City's most accurate forecast. We are tracking a massive weather change today!
Update below:
Good morning bloggers,
One of the strongest Arctic fronts in years is now blasting through Kansas and entering northwest Missouri at 7 AM. A Wind Advisory is in affect today as winds are gusting to over 50 mph this morning from the south. The wind will be shifting to the north and likely being just as strong. Snow is possible tonight for a brief time and we could see some quick accumulation in some of the snow bands that form. There is also a chance of a brief freezing rain or mixture of precipitation before it changes to snow. Look at the cold front blasting our way at 7 AM this morning. There is a 50 degree contrast across Kansas alone with 8 in Goodland and 58 in Kansas City:

This strong Arctic front and blast of cold is moving very fast. It should pass through the Kansas City metro area by around kickoff of the Chiefs game. And, it should pass the entire viewing area by 3 PM. Will there be any precipitation near and behind the front? Temperatures will drop below 32 degrees very fast so anything that falls after 3 PM will have the potential of producing slick and hazardous driving conditions. We will be monitoring this closely today as the precipitation part of the forecast is very complex.
Update: The new models vary from a snowstorm Tuesday to a dusting Tuesday. We will be updating the blog later today on our thoughts. In the mean time we are experiencing a dramatic weather change right now. Here is the 10 AM surface map as the powerful Arctic front is moving through the KC metro area and should be southeast of Lee's Summit by noon. Notice the 62 degree contrast from Joplin, MO (67 degrees) to Goodland, KS (5 degrees):

We are tracking a possible snowstorm on Tuesday, but the models have widely varying solutions. The NAM has been consistent with forecasting accumulating snow on Tuesday as a wave ejects out of the southwestern trough. The GFS has been trying to warm up the mid and upper layers of the atmosphere dramatically and creating problems for Tuesday's forecast. As soon as the models are in we will look ahead to the snow potential out of this next system.
Get prepared for this blast of cold this morning. Hold onto your hats and enjoy the warm start to the day. It will be a long time before it is this mild again!
