Watch NBC Action News HD for the latest on Thursday's storm and the next arctic blast!
"It was a long and dark December, from the rooftops I remember, there was snow......white snow" This is a quote from Coldplay's song Violet Hill.
Good morning bloggers,
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the counties bordering Iowa. This goes into effect on Thursday. There is a chance of freezing drizzle, freezing rain and sleet on Thursday. Hopefully temperatures will rise above freezing later in the day Thursday.
The new NAM has a slightly colder and slower solution. Look below at the surface forecast valid at midnight tomorrow night:

With snow on the ground from near the Oklahoma/Kansas border all the way up to the North Pole it is no surprise that the models are having a very difficult time handling the Arctic air and how this storm is going to interact with it. With this NAM solution it looks dry through the morning rush hour on Thursday. Then precipitation will likely be developing in the form of freezing drizzle or freezing rain. Thunderstorms are possible later in the day or evening on Thursday as the storm approaches the region. There is a chance of some icing but, we need another few hours to be able to have a better handle on where the most likely spot will be lcoated. The National Weather Service does have a Winter Storm Watch for extreme northern Missouir. This is the most likely spot at this time for an ice storm. I will be working on a more extensive blog later today.
Donna Lindahl of Knob Noster, MO sent this picture of her horse 'Eclipse'. Eclipse wants everyone to know he prefers eating grass over snow.
